31 Poi prese dodici pietre, secondo il numero delle tribù de’ figliuoli di Giacobbe, al quale l’Eterno avea detto: "Il tuo nome sarà Israele".

1 Kings 18:31

And Elijah took twelve stones, according to the number of the
tribes of the sons of Jacob
Which he might very easily come at from the mountain:

unto whom the word of the Lord came, saying, Israel shall be thy name,
which signifies one that has power with God, as Jacob had, when the word came to him to make a change in his name at Penuel, ( Genesis 32:28 ) , and as Elijah hoped and believed he should have at this time, being a prophet, and a worshipper of Israel's God.

29 E passato che fu il mezzogiorno, quelli profetarono fino all’ora in cui si offriva l’oblazione, senza che s’udisse voce o risposta o ci fosse chi desse loro retta.

30 Allora Elia disse a tutto il popolo: "Accostatevi a me!" E tutto il popolo s’accostò a lui; ed Elia restaurò l’altare dell’Eterno ch’era stato demolito.

31 Poi prese dodici pietre, secondo il numero delle tribù de’ figliuoli di Giacobbe, al quale l’Eterno avea detto: "Il tuo nome sarà Israele".

32 E con quelle pietre edificò un altare al nome dell’Eterno, e fece intorno all’altare un fosso, dalla capacità di due misure di grano.

33 Poi vi accomodò le legna, fece a pezzi il giovenco, e lo pose sopra le legna.
