2 Kings 17:3

Against him came up Shalmaneser king of Assyria
Which some take to be the same with Tiglathpileser, see ( 1 Chronicles 5:26 ) but he rather seems to be his son; his name was to be found, as Josephus F23 relates, in the archives of the Tyrians, against whom he had an expedition; his name is Salmanassar in Metasthenes F24, who says he reigned seventeen years:

and Hoshea became his servant, and gave him presents,
to depart from him; he became tributary to him, and agreed to pay him a yearly tax.

1 L’anno dodicesimo di Achaz, re di Giuda, Hosea, figliuolo di Elah, cominciò a regnare sopra Israele a Samaria, e regnò nove anni.
2 Egli fece ciò ch’è male agli occhi dell’Eterno; non però come gli altri re d’Israele che l’aveano preceduto.
3 Shalmaneser, re d’Assiria salì contro di lui; ed Hosea gli fu assoggettato e gli pagò tributo.
4 Ma il re d’Assiria scoprì una congiura ordita da Hosea, il quale aveva inviato de’ messi a So, re d’Egitto, e non pagava più il consueto annuo tributo ai re d’Assiria; perciò il re d’Assiria lo fece imprigionare e mettere in catene.
5 Poi il re d’Assiria invase tutto il paese, salì contro Samaria, e l’assediò per tre anni.
