8 E com’essi colpivano ed io ero rimasto solo, caddi sulla mia faccia e gridai: "Ahimè, Signore, Eterno, distruggerai tu tutto ciò che rimane d’Israele, riversando il tuo furore su Gerusalemme?"

Ezekiel 9:8

And it came to pass, while they were slaying them
That were in the city: and I was left;
in the temple; and the only one that was left there, the rest were slain; for there were none marked in the temple, only in the city, ( Ezekiel 9:4 ) ; that I fell upon my face;
as a supplicant, with great humility: and cried, and said;
being greatly distressed with this awful providence: ah, Lord God! wilt thou destroy all the residue of Israel;
the ten tribes had been carried captive before; there only remained the two tribes of Judah and Benjamin, and these were now threatened with an utter destruction: in thy pouring out of thy fury upon Jerusalem?

6 uccidete, sterminate vecchi, giovani, vergini, bambini e donne, ma non vi avvicinate ad alcuno che porti il segno; e cominciate dal mio santuario". Ed essi cominciarono da quegli anziani che stavano davanti alla casa.

7 Poi egli disse loro: "Contaminate la casa ed empite di morti i cortili! Uscite!" E quelli uscirono, e andarono colpendo per la città.

8 E com’essi colpivano ed io ero rimasto solo, caddi sulla mia faccia e gridai: "Ahimè, Signore, Eterno, distruggerai tu tutto ciò che rimane d’Israele, riversando il tuo furore su Gerusalemme?"

9 Ed egli mi rispose: "L’iniquità della casa d’Israele e di Giuda è oltremodo grande; il paese è pieno di sangue, e la città è piena di prevaricazioni; poiché dicono: L’Eterno ha abbandonato il paese, l’Eterno non vede nulla.

10 Perciò, anche l’occhio mio non risparmierà nessuno, io non avrò pietà, e farò ricadere sul loro capo la loro condotta".
