Isaia 16:1-11

1 "Mandate gli agnelli per il dominatore del paese, mandateli da Sela, per la via del deserto, al monte della figliuola di Sion!"

2 Come uccelli che fuggono, come una nidiata dispersa, così saranno le figliuole di Moab ai guadi dell’Arnon.

3 "Consigliaci, fa giustizia! In pien mezzodì, stendi su noi l’ombra tua densa come la notte, nascondi gli esuli, non tradire i fuggiaschi;

4 lascia dimorare presso di te gli esuli di Moab, si tu per loro un rifugio contro il devastatore! Poiché l’oppressione è finita, la devastazione è cessata, gl’invasori sono scomparsi dal paese,

5 il trono è stabilito fermamente sulla clemenza, e sul trono sta assiso fedelmente, nella tenda di Davide, un giudice amico del diritto, e pronto a far giustizia".

6 "Noi conosciamo l’orgoglio di Moab, l’orgogliosissima, la sua alterigia, la sua superbia, la sua arroganza, il suo vantarsi senza fondamento!"

7 Perciò gema Moab per Moab, tutti gemano! Rimpiangete, costernati, le schiacciate d’uva di Kir-Hareseth!

8 Poiché le campagne di Heshbon languono; languono i vigneti di Sibmah, le cui viti scelte, che inebriavano i padroni delle nazioni, arrivavano fino a Jazer, erravano per il deserto, ed avean propaggini che s’espandevan lontano, e passavano il mare.

9 Piango, perciò, come piange Jazer, i vigneti di Sibmah; io v’irrigo delle mie lacrime, o Heshbon, o Elealeh! poiché sui vostri frutti d’estate e sulle vostre mèssi s’è abbattuto un grido di guerra.

10 La gioia, il giubilo sono scomparsi dalla ferace campagna; e nelle vigne non ci sono più canti, né grida d’allegrezza; il vendemmiatore non pigia più l’uva nei tini; io ho fatto cessare il grido di gioia della vendemmia.

11 Perciò le mie viscere fremono per Moab come un’arpa, e geme il mio cuore per Kir-Heres.

INTRODUCTION TO ISAIAH 16

This chapter is a continuation of the prophecy against Moab; in which the prophet gives good advice, but in case of a haughty neglect of it, which he foresaw, threatens with ruin, and fixes a time for it. He advises the Moabites to pay their tribute to the king of Judah, or otherwise they should be turned out of their land, as a bird out of its nest, Isa 16:1,2 to protect, and not betray the people of the Jews that should flee to them, because of the Assyrian army, Isa 16:3,4 and for this end gives a great character of the king of Judah, and assures them of the stability of his kingdom, Isa 16:5 but for their pride, wrath, and lying, they are threatened with destruction, and are represented as howling under it, Isa 16:6,7 because of the spoil of their cities, vineyards, and fields, so that they have no harvest, nor vintage, nor gathering of summer fruits, or joy on these accounts, Isa 16:8-10 for which even the prophet expresses a concern, Isa 16:11 and after having observed the application of the Moabites to their gods without success, Isa 16:12 the chapter is closed with an assurance of the certain ruin of Moab, and of the time when it should be, Isa 16:13,14.
