Numbers 10:5 Meaning and Commentary

Numbers 10:5

When ye blow an alarm
Making a broken, uneven, and quavering sound, which is called a "tara-tan-tara":

then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward;
the camps of Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun, which lay to the east of the tabernacle, at the front of it; see ( Numbers 1:3 Numbers 1:5 Numbers 1:7 ) ; this was to be the token for their march, which was first of all; ( Numbers 10:14 ) .

Numbers 10:5 In-Context

3 And when both are blown, all the congregation shall gather themselves to you at the entrance of the tent of meeting.
4 But if they blow only one, then the leaders, the heads of the tribes of Israel, shall gather themselves to you.
5 When you blow an alarm, the camps that are on the east side shall set out.
6 And when you blow an alarm the second time, the camps that are on the south side shall set out. An alarm is to be blown whenever they are to set out.
7 But when the assembly is to be gathered together, you shall blow, but you shall not sound an alarm.
