2 Crónicas 1

1 Y Salomón hijo de David fue confirmado en su reino; y el SEÑOR su Dios fue con él, y le magnificó grandemente.

2 Y llamó Salomón a todo Israel, tribunos, centuriones, y jueces, y a todos los príncipes de todo Israel, cabezas de familias.

3 Y fue Salomón, y con él toda la congregación, al alto que había en Gabaón; porque allí estaba el tabernáculo del testimonio de Dios, que Moisés siervo del SEÑOR había hecho en el desierto.

4 Mas David había traído el arca de Dios de Quiriat-jearim al lugar que él le había preparado; porque él le había tendido una tienda en Jerusalén.

5 Asimismo el altar de bronce que había hecho Bezaleel hijo de Uri hijo de Hur, estaba allí delante del tabernáculo del SEÑOR, al cual Salomón y la congregación fueron a buscar.

6 Subió, pues , Salomón allá delante del SEÑOR, al altar de bronce que estaba en el tabernáculo del testimonio, y sacrificó sobre él mil holocaustos.

7 Y aquella noche apareció Dios a Salomón, y le dijo: Demanda lo que quisieres que yo te dé.

8 Y Salomón dijo a Dios: Tú has hecho con David mi padre grande misericordia, y a mí me has puesto por rey en lugar suyo;

9 sea pues ahora firme, oh SEÑOR Dios, tu palabra con mi padre David; porque tú me has puesto por rey sobre un pueblo tan numeroso como el polvo de la tierra.

10 Dame, pues, ahora sabiduría y ciencia, para que pueda gobernar este pueblo; porque ¿quién podrá juzgar este tu pueblo tan grande?

11 Y dijo Dios a Salomón: Por cuanto esto fue en tu corazón, que no pediste riquezas, hacienda, o gloria, ni la vida de los que te quieren mal, ni pediste muchos días, sino que has pedido para ti sabiduría y ciencia para poder juzgar a mi pueblo, sobre el cual te he puesto por rey,

12 sabiduría y ciencia te es dada; y también te daré riquezas, hacienda y gloria, cual nunca hubo en los reyes que han sido antes de ti, ni después de ti habrá tal.

13 Y volvió Salomón a Jerusalén del alto que estaba en Gabaón, de ante el tabernáculo del testimonio; y reinó sobre Israel.

14 Y juntó Salomón carros y gente de a caballo; y tuvo mil cuatrocientos carros, y doce mil jinetes, los cuales puso en las ciudades de los carros, y con el rey en Jerusalén.

15 Y puso el rey plata y oro en Jerusalén como piedras, y madera de cedro como cabrahigos que nacen en los campos en abundancia.

16 Y sacaban caballos y lienzos finos de Egipto para Salomón; porque la compañía de los mercaderes del rey compraban caballos y lienzos.

17 Y subían, y sacaban de Egipto un carro por seiscientas piezas de plata, y un caballo por ciento cincuenta; y así por mano de ellos los sacaban todos los reyes de los heteos, y los reyes de Siria.

Chapter 1

Solomon's choice of wisdom, His strength and wealth.

- SOLOMON began his reign with a pious, public visit to God's altar. Those that pursue present things most eagerly, are likely to be disappointed; while those that refer themselves to the providence of God, if they have not the most, have the most comfort. Those that make this world their end, come short of the other, and are disappointed in this also; but those that make the other world their end, shall not only obtain that, and full satisfaction in it, but shall have as much of this world as is good for them, in their way. Let us then be contented, without those great things which men generally covet, but which commonly prove fatal snares to the soul.

INTRODUCTION TO SECOND CHRONICLES

This, and the preceding, were but one book originally, but divided into two because of the size of it, so that this is only a continuation of the former history; that ends at the death of David; this begins with the reign of Solomon, goes through that, and the reigns of all the kings of the house of David; of the kings of Judah only, after the separation of the ten tribes, quite down to the captivity of Judah in Babylon, and reaches to the deliverance of the Jews from thence by Cyrus, and contains an history of four hundred and seventy nine years. It treats not at all of the kings of Israel, after the separation, only of the kings of Judah, through whom the line of the Messiah was drawn; and though it omits several things recorded of them in the book of Kings, yet it gives abundance of anecdotes not to be met with there, which are of great use and advantage in history to know.

This chapter relates, how that Solomon being confirmed in his kingdom, went to Gibeon to sacrifice 2Ch 1:1-6, that the Lord appeared there to him, and what passed between them, 2Ch 1:7-10 and that when he returned from thence to Jerusalem, he increased in splendour, wealth, and riches, 2Ch 1:13-17.
