For John had said unto Herod
He had been personally with him, and had plainly and freely told him of his sin, and faithfully reproved him for it; alleging what he had done was contrary to the law of God:
it is not lawful, for thee to have thy brother's wife:

Y oyéndolo Herodes, dijo: Este es Juan el que yo degollé; él ha resucitado de los muertos.

Porque el mismo Herodes había enviado, y prendido a Juan, y le había aprisionado en la cárcel a causa de Herodías, mujer de Felipe su hermano; porque la había tomado por mujer.

Porque Juan decía a Herodes: No te es lícito tener la mujer de tu hermano.

Mas Herodías le acechaba, y deseaba matarle, y no podía;
20
porque Herodes temía a Juan, conociéndolo varón justo y santo; y le tenía respeto; y escuchándole, hacía muchas cosas; y le oía de buena gana.
