Leviticus 24:18

And he that killeth a beast shall make it good
Pay for it, give the value of it, or another as good as that instead of it, as follows: beast for beast;
or "soul for soul"; life for life, that is, a living one for that the life of which is taken away, and one every way as good as that.

Leviticus 24:18 In-Context

16 He who blasphemes the name of Yahweh, he shall surely be put to death; all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the sojourner, as the home-born, when he blasphemes the name [of Yahweh], shall be put to death.
17 He who strikes any man mortally shall surely be put to death.
18 He who strikes a animal mortally shall make it good, life for life.
19 If a man cause a blemish in his neighbor; as he has done, so shall it be done to him:
20 breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth; as he has caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be rendered to him.
