&c.] Not only to Jesse's family, which as a root in a dry ground, and to Jerusalem, the metropolis of the nation; but to the root of the vain boasting of every Jew; their descent from Abraham, the covenant made with him, their ecclesiastical state and civil polity, all which would quickly be at an end: the Romans were now among them, the axe in God's hand; by means of whom, utter ruin and destruction would be brought upon their nation, city, and temple:

Nations have been destroyed who committed sins God forbade. They were not spared and we will not be spared if we continue to commit such sins in this nation and to promote and honor such sins. This land will vomit us out.

“Oh yeah? Well, prove it!” Have you ever been challenged like that? In today’s lesson, Satan and Jesus meet face to face, and it’s almost as if Satan puts his hands on his hips in defiance and says, “You’re God? Well, prove it!” Join in to discover just a few of the many ways Jesus “proved it” to Satan and to us today.

Today, we are playing with fire. We are committing sins that God has clearly condemned. History shows that nations who committed such sins were destroyed. Judgement came on them and it will come on us if we do not repent. We are playing with fire in condoning sins that God calls an abomination. We may get away with it for a while but not forever. Judgement will come and this land will vomit us out if we do not repent.
