Woe to you who long for the day of the LORD!1 Why do you long for the day of the LORD?2 That day will be darkness,3 not light.4
It will be as though a man fled from a lion only to meet a bear,5 as though he entered his house and rested his hand on the wall only to have a snake bite him.6
Will not the day of the LORD be darkness,7 not light-- pitch-dark, without a ray of brightness?8
"I hate,9 I despise your religious feasts;10 I cannot stand your assemblies.11
Even though you bring me burnt offerings12 and grain offerings, I will not accept them.1314 Though you bring choice fellowship offerings, I will have no regard for them.1516
Away with the noise of your songs! I will not listen to the music of your harps.17
But let justice18 roll on like a river, righteousness19 like a never-failing stream!20
"Did you bring me sacrifices21 and offerings forty years22 in the desert, O house of Israel?
You have lifted up the shrine of your king, the pedestal of your idols,23 the star of your god-- which you made for yourselves.
Therefore I will send you into exile24 beyond Damascus," says the LORD, whose name is God Almighty.25
