12 Blessed is the 1nation whose God is the LORD, The people whom He has 2chosen for His own inheritance.
13 The LORD 3looks from heaven; He 4sees all the sons of men;
14 From 5His dwelling place He looks out On all the inhabitants of the earth,
15 He who 6fashions the hearts of them all, He who 7understands all their works.
16 8The king is not saved by a mighty army; A warrior is not delivered by great strength.
17 A 9horse is a false hope for victory; Nor does it deliver anyone by its great strength.
18 Behold, 10the eye of the LORD is on those who fear Him, On those who 11hope for His lovingkindness,
19 To 12deliver their soul from death And to keep them alive 13in famine.
20 Our soul 14waits for the LORD; He is our 15help and our shield.
21 For our 16heart rejoices in Him, Because we trust in His holy name.
22 Let Your lovingkindness, O LORD, be upon us, According as we have hoped in You.

Psalm 33:12-22 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 33

Though this psalm has no title to it, it seems to be a psalm of David, from the style and matter of it; and indeed begins with the same words with which the preceding psalm is ended. Theodoret is of opinion it was written by David as a prophecy concerning Hezekiah, as a song to be sung by the people after the destruction of the Assyrian army.
