Therefore do not let sin reign1 in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires.
Do not offer the parts of your body to sin, as instruments of wickedness,2 but rather offer yourselves to God, as those who have been brought from death to life; and offer the parts of your body to him as instruments of righteousness.314
For sin shall not be your master,4 because you are not under law,5 but under grace.6
What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace?7 By no means!
Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey8--whether you are slaves to sin,9 which leads to death,10 or to obedience, which leads to righteousness?
But thanks be to God11 that, though you used to be slaves to sin,12 you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching13 to which you were entrusted.
You have been set free from sin14 and have become slaves to righteousness.1519
I put this in human terms16 because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness17 leading to holiness.
When you were slaves to sin,18 you were free from the control of righteousness.1921
What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of ? Those things result in death!2022
But now that you have been set free from sin21 and have become slaves to God,22 the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life.2323
For the wages of sin is death,24 but the gift of God is eternal life25 ina Christ Jesus our Lord.
