The Beatitudes
20 And
1he lifted up his eyes on his disciples,
2and said: “Blessed are you who are poor, for
3yours is the kingdom of God.
21
4“Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.
5“Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
22
“Blessed are you when
6people hate you and when they
7exclude you and revile you and
8spurn your name as evil,
9on account of the Son of Man!
23
10Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for
11so their fathers did to the prophets.
Jesus Pronounces Woes
24 12“But woe to you who are rich,
13for you
14have received your consolation.
25
“Woe to you who are full now, for
15you shall be hungry. “Woe to
16you who laugh now,
17for you shall mourn and weep.
26
“Woe to you,
18when all people speak well of you, for
19so their fathers did to
20the false prophets.
