Descendants of David

1 1These are the sons of David who were born to him in Hebron: the firstborn, Amnon, by Ahinoam the Jezreelite; the second, 2Daniel, by Abigail the Carmelite,
2 the third, Absalom, whose mother was Maacah, the daughter of Talmai, king of Geshur; the fourth, Adonijah, whose mother was Haggith;
3 the fifth, Shephatiah, by Abital; the sixth, Ithream, by his wife Eglah;
4 six were born to him in Hebron, 3where he reigned for seven years and six months. 4And he reigned thirty-three years in Jerusalem.
5 5These were born to him in Jerusalem: 6Shimea, Shobab, Nathan and 7Solomon, four by 8Bath-shua, the daughter of 9Ammiel;
6 then Ibhar, 10Elishama, Eliphelet,
7 Nogah, Nepheg, Japhia,
8 Elishama, 11Eliada, and Eliphelet, nine.
9 All these were David's sons, besides the sons of the concubines, 12and Tamar was their sister.
10 The son of Solomon was 13Rehoboam, 14Abijah his son, 15Asa his son, 16Jehoshaphat his son,
11 17Joram his son, 18Ahaziah his son, 19Joash his son,
12 20Amaziah his son, 21Azariah his son, 22Jotham his son,
13 23Ahaz his son, 24Hezekiah his son, 25Manasseh his son,
14 26Amon his son, 27Josiah his son.
15 The sons of Josiah: 28Johanan the firstborn, the second 29Jehoiakim, the third 30Zedekiah, the fourth Shallum.
16 The descendants of 31Jehoiakim: 32Jeconiah his son, 33Zedekiah his son;
17 and the sons of Jeconiah, the 34captive: 35Shealtiel his son,
18 Malchiram, Pedaiah, Shenazzar, Jekamiah, Hoshama and Nedabiah;
19 and the sons of Pedaiah: 36Zerubbabel and Shimei; and the sons of 37Zerubbabel: Meshullam and Hananiah, and Shelomith was their sister;
20 and Hashubah, Ohel, Berechiah, Hasadiah, and Jushab-hesed, five.
21 The sons of Hananiah: Pelatiah and Jeshaiah, his son[a] Rephaiah, his son Arnan, his son Obadiah, his son Shecaniah.
22 The son[b] of Shecaniah: 38Shemaiah. And the sons of Shemaiah: 39Hattush, Igal, Bariah, Neariah, and Shaphat, six.
23 The sons of Neariah: Elioenai, Hizkiah, and Azrikam, three.
24 The sons of Elioenai: Hodaviah, Eliashib, Pelaiah, Akkub, Johanan, Delaiah, and Anani, seven.

Chapter 3

Genealogies.

- Of all the families of Israel, none were so illustrious as the family of David: here we have a full account of it. From this family, as concerning the flesh, Christ came. The attentive observer will perceive that the children of the righteous enjoy many advantages.

This chapter gives an account of the sons of David, born to him both in Hebron and in Jerusalem, 1Ch 3:1-9, and of his successors in the kingdom, to the Babylonish captivity, 1Ch 3:10-16, and of his family, to the coming of the Messiah, 1Ch 3:17-24.
