The Temptation of Jesus

1 ¹Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness ²to be tempted by the devil.

2 And after fasting ³forty days and forty nights, he ⁴was hungry.

3 And ⁵the tempter came and said to him, “If you are ⁶the Son of God, command ⁷these stones to become loaves of bread. ”

4 But he answered, ⁸“It is written, ⁹“‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God. ’”
