And the word of the LORD came to Zechariah, saying,
"Thus says the LORD of hosts, 1Render true judgments, show kindness and mercy to one another,
2do not oppress the widow, the fatherless, the sojourner, 3or the poor, and 4let none of you devise evil against another in your heart."
But 5they refused to pay attention 6and turned a stubborn shoulder and stopped their ears that they might not hear.
7They made their hearts diamond-hard 8lest they should hear the law and the words that the LORD of hosts had sent 9by his Spirit through 10the former prophets. 11Therefore great anger came from the LORD of hosts.
12"As I called, and they would not hear, 13so they called, and I would not hear," says the LORD of hosts,
14"and I scattered them with a whirlwind among all 15the nations that they had not known. 16Thus the land they left was desolate, 17so that no one went to and fro, 18and the pleasant land was made desolate."
