6 And God said,1 "Let there be an expanse2 between the waters3 to separate water from water." 7 So God made the expanse and separated the water under the expanse from the water above it.4 And it was so.5 8 God called6 the expanse "sky."7 And there was evening, and there was morning8--the second day. 9 And God said, "Let the water under the sky be gathered to one place,9 and let dry ground10 appear." And it was so.11 10 God called12 the dry ground "land," and the gathered waters13 he called "seas."14 And God saw that it was good.15 11 Then God said, "Let the land produce vegetation:16 seed-bearing plants and trees on the land that bear fruit with seed in it, according to their various kinds.17" And it was so.18 12 The land produced vegetation: plants bearing seed according to their kinds19 and trees bearing fruit with seed in it according to their kinds. And God saw that it was good.20 13 And there was evening, and there was morning21--the third day. 14 And God said, "Let there be lights22 in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night,23 and let them serve as signs24 to mark seasons25 and days and years,26 15 and let them be lights in the expanse of the sky to give light on the earth." And it was so.27 16 God made two great lights--the greater light28 to govern29 the day and the lesser light to govern30 the night.31 He also made the stars.32
