Though your people, O Israel, be like the sand1 by the sea, only a remnant will return.2 Destruction has been decreed,3 overwhelming and righteous.
The Lord, the LORD Almighty, will carry out the destruction decreed4 upon the whole land.524
Therefore, this is what the Lord, the LORD Almighty, says: "O my people who live in Zion,6 do not be afraid7 of the Assyrians, who beat8 you with a rod9 and lift up a club against you, as Egypt did.
Very soon10 my anger against you will end and my wrath11 will be directed to their destruction.12"
The LORD Almighty will lash13 them with a whip, as when he struck down Midian14 at the rock of Oreb; and he will raise his staff15 over the waters,16 as he did in Egypt.
In that day17 their burden18 will be lifted from your shoulders, their yoke19 from your neck;20 the yoke21 will be broken because you have grown so fat.a28
They enter Aiath; they pass through Migron;22 they store supplies23 at Micmash.2429
They go over the pass, and say, "We will camp overnight at Geba.25" Ramah26 trembles; Gibeah27 of Saul flees.2830
Cry out, O Daughter of Gallim!29 Listen, O Laishah! Poor Anathoth!3031
Madmenah is in flight; the people of Gebim take cover.
This day they will halt at Nob;31 they will shake their fist32 at the mount of the Daughter of Zion,33 at the hill of Jerusalem.
