Though grace is shown to the wicked,1 they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil2 and regard3 not the majesty of the LORD.

O LORD, your hand is lifted high,4 but they do not see5 it. Let them see your zeal6 for your people and be put to shame;7 let the fire8 reserved for your enemies consume them.

LORD, you establish peace9 for us; all that we have accomplished you have done10 for us.

O LORD, our God, other lords11 besides you have ruled over us, but your name12 alone do we honor.1314
They are now dead,14 they live no more; those departed spirits15 do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin;16 you wiped out all memory of them.1715
You have enlarged the nation, O LORD; you have enlarged the nation.18 You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders19 of the land.

LORD, they came to you in their distress;20 when you disciplined21 them, they could barely whisper22 a prayer.a17
As a woman with child and about to give birth23 writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, O LORD.

We were with child, we writhed in pain, but we gave birth24 to wind. We have not brought salvation25 to the earth; we have not given birth to people of the world.2619
But your dead27 will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust,28 wake up and shout for joy. Your dew29 is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.3020
Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors31 behind you; hide32 yourselves for a little while until his wrath33 has passed by.34
