LORD, you establish peace1 for us; all that we have accomplished you have done2 for us.
O LORD, our God, other lords3 besides you have ruled over us, but your name4 alone do we honor.514
They are now dead,6 they live no more; those departed spirits7 do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin;8 you wiped out all memory of them.915
You have enlarged the nation, O LORD; you have enlarged the nation.10 You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders11 of the land.
LORD, they came to you in their distress;12 when you disciplined13 them, they could barely whisper14 a prayer.a17
As a woman with child and about to give birth15 writhes and cries out in her pain, so were we in your presence, O LORD.
We were with child, we writhed in pain, but we gave birth16 to wind. We have not brought salvation17 to the earth; we have not given birth to people of the world.1819
But your dead19 will live; their bodies will rise. You who dwell in the dust,20 wake up and shout for joy. Your dew21 is like the dew of the morning; the earth will give birth to her dead.2220
Go, my people, enter your rooms and shut the doors23 behind you; hide24 yourselves for a little while until his wrath25 has passed by.2621
See, the LORD is coming27 out of his dwelling28 to punish29 the people of the earth for their sins. The earth will disclose the blood30 shed upon her; she will conceal her slain no longer.
