Isaiah 26:5-15 (New International Version)

View In My Bible
5 He humbles those who dwell on high, he lays the lofty city low; he levels it to the ground1 and casts it down to the dust.2 6 Feet trample3 it down-- the feet of the oppressed,4 the footsteps of the poor.5 7 The path of the righteous is level;6 O upright One,7 you make the way of the righteous smooth.8 8 Yes, LORD, walking in the way of your laws,a9 we wait10 for you; your name11 and renown are the desire of our hearts. 9 My soul yearns for you in the night;12 in the morning my spirit longs13 for you. When your judgments14 come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.15 10 Though grace is shown to the wicked,16 they do not learn righteousness; even in a land of uprightness they go on doing evil17 and regard18 not the majesty of the LORD. 11 O LORD, your hand is lifted high,19 but they do not see20 it. Let them see your zeal21 for your people and be put to shame;22 let the fire23 reserved for your enemies consume them. 12 LORD, you establish peace24 for us; all that we have accomplished you have done25 for us. 13 O LORD, our God, other lords26 besides you have ruled over us, but your name27 alone do we honor.28 14 They are now dead,29 they live no more; those departed spirits30 do not rise. You punished them and brought them to ruin;31 you wiped out all memory of them.32 15 You have enlarged the nation, O LORD; you have enlarged the nation.33 You have gained glory for yourself; you have extended all the borders34 of the land.
