The LORD will surely comfort1 Zion2 and will look with compassion on all her ruins;3 he will make her deserts like Eden,4 her wastelands5 like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness6 will be found in her, thanksgiving7 and the sound of singing.
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, look at the earth beneath; the heavens will vanish like smoke,18 the earth will wear out like a garment19 and its inhabitants die like flies. But my salvation20 will last forever,21 my righteousness will never fail.22
Awake, awake!29 Clothe yourself with strength,30 O arm31 of the LORD; awake, as in days gone by, as in generations of old.32 Was it not you who cut Rahab33 to pieces, who pierced that monster34 through?
that you forget47 the LORD your Maker,48 who stretched out the heavens49 and laid the foundations of the earth, that you live in constant terror50 every day because of the wrath of the oppressor, who is bent on destruction? For where is the wrath of the oppressor?51
I have put my words in your mouth57 and covered you with the shadow of my hand58-- I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth,59 and who say to Zion, 'You are my people.60' "
This is what your Sovereign LORD says, your God, who defends80 his people: "See, I have taken out of your hand the cup81 that made you stagger; from that cup, the goblet of my wrath, you will never drink again.
