At this I awoke1 and looked around. My sleep had been pleasant to me.
"The days are coming,"2 declares the LORD, "when I will plant3 the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the offspring of men and of animals.
Just as I watched4 over them to uproot5 and tear down, and to overthrow, destroy and bring disaster,6 so I will watch over them to build and to plant,"7 declares the LORD.
"In those days people will no longer say, 'The fathers8 have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.'930
Instead, everyone will die for his own sin;10 whoever eats sour grapes--his own teeth will be set on edge.
"The time is coming," declares the LORD, "when I will make a new covenant11 with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah.
It will not be like the covenant12 I made with their forefathers13 when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt,14 because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband15 toa them,b " declares the LORD.
"This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time," declares the LORD. "I will put my law in their minds16 and write it on their hearts.17 I will be their God, and they will be my people.1834
No longer will a man teach19 his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, 'Know the LORD,' because they will all know20 me, from the least of them to the greatest," declares the LORD. "For I will forgive21 their wickedness and will remember their sins22 no more."
This is what the LORD says, he who appoints23 the sun to shine by day, who decrees the moon and stars to shine by night,24 who stirs up the sea25 so that its waves roar26-- the LORD Almighty is his name:2736
"Only if these decrees28 vanish from my sight," declares the LORD, "will the descendants29 of Israel ever cease to be a nation before me."
