15 all mankind would perish1 together and man would return to the dust.2 16 "If you have understanding,3 hear this; listen to what I say.4 17 Can he who hates justice govern?5 Will you condemn the just and mighty One?6 18 Is he not the One who says to kings, 'You are worthless,' and to nobles,7 'You are wicked,'8 19 who shows no partiality9 to princes and does not favor the rich over the poor,10 for they are all the work of his hands?11 20 They die in an instant, in the middle of the night;12 the people are shaken and they pass away; the mighty are removed without human hand.13 21 "His eyes are on the ways of men;14 he sees their every step.15 22 There is no dark place,16 no deep shadow,17 where evildoers can hide.18 23 God has no need to examine men further,19 that they should come before him for judgment.20 24 Without inquiry he shatters21 the mighty22 and sets up others in their place.23 25 Because he takes note of their deeds,24 he overthrows them in the night25 and they are crushed.26
