To the roots of the mountains4 I sank down; the earth beneath barred me in forever. But you brought my life up from the pit,5 O LORD my God.
"When my life was ebbing away, I remembered6 you, LORD, and my prayer7 rose to you, to your holy temple.8
"Those who cling to worthless idols9 forfeit the grace that could be theirs.
But I, with a song of thanksgiving,10 will sacrifice11 to you. What I have vowed12 I will make good. Salvation13 comes from the LORD."
And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.
