1And the wholemultitude of themarose , and ledhimuntoPilate.2And they began to accusehim,saying , We foundthis fellow perverting the nation,andforbidding to givetribute to Caesar,saying that he himselfisChrist a King.3AndPilateaskedhim,saying , Artthou the King of the Jews?And he answeredhim and said , Thousayest it.4ThensaidPilateto the chief priestsand to the people, I findnofaultinthisman.5And they were the more fierce , saying , He stirreth up the people,teachingthroughoutallJewry,beginningfromGalileeto this place.6WhenPilateheard of Galilee, he askedwhether the manwere a Galilaean.7And as soon as he knewthat he belongeduntoHerod'sjurisdiction, he senthimtoHerod,whohimselfalsowasatJerusalematthattime.8And when HerodsawJesus, he was exceedingglad : for he wasdesirous to seehimof a long season, because he had heard many thingsofhim;and he hoped to have seensomemiracledonebyhim.9Then he questioned with himinmanywords;butheansweredhimnothing.10And the chief priestsandscribesstood and vehementlyaccusedhim.11AndHerodwithhis men of warsethim at nought , andmocked him, and arrayedhim in a gorgeousrobe, and senthimagain to Pilate.12AndthesamedayPilateandHerod were madefriendstogether : forbefore they wereatenmitybetweenthemselves.13AndPilate, when he had called together the chief priestsand the rulersand the people,14Saiduntothem, Ye have broughtthisman unto me,as one that perverteth the people:and,behold , I, having examined him beforeyou, have foundnofaultinthisman touching those thingswhereof ye accusehim:15No, nor yetHerod:for I sentyoutohim;and,lo , nothingworthy of deathisdone unto him.16
I willthereforechastisehim, and release him.

(For of necessity he mustreleaseone unto themat the feast.)
18And they cried out all at once,saying , Away withthis man, andrelease unto usBarabbas:19
(Who for a certainseditionmadein the city,and for murder, was castinto prison.)
20Pilatetherefore,willing to releaseJesus,spakeagain to them .
21But they cried , saying , Crucify him, crucifyhim.22And he saiduntothem the third time,Why,whatevilhathhedone ? I have foundnocause of deathinhim: I willthereforechastisehim, and let him go .
23And they were instant with loudvoices,requiring that he might be crucified . And the voices of themand of the chief priestsprevailed .
24AndPilate gave sentence that it should be astheyrequired.25And he released unto them him that forseditionandmurder was castintoprison,whom they had desired ; but he deliveredJesus to theirwill.26Andas they ledhimaway , they laid hold upononeSimon, a Cyrenian,coming out of the country, and onhim they laid the cross, that he might bear it afterJesus.27And there followedhim a greatcompany of people,and of women,whichalsobewailedandlamentedhim.28ButJesusturninguntothemsaid , Daughters of Jerusalem,weepnotforme,butweepforyourselves,andforyourchildren.29For,behold , the days are coming , in the which they shall say , Blessed are the barren,and the wombsthatneverbare , and the papswhichnever gave suck .30Then shall they begin to say to the mountains,Fallonus;and to the hills,Coverus.31Forif they do these thingsin a greentree,what shall be donein the dry?32And there were alsotwoother,malefactors,ledwithhim to be put to death .
33Andwhen they were cometo the place,which is calledCalvary,athere they crucifiedhim,and the malefactors,oneon the right hand,and the otheron the left.34ThensaidJesus,Father,forgivethem;for they knownotwhat they do .And they partedhisraiment, and castlots.35And the peoplestoodbeholding . And the rulersalsowiththemderided him, saying , He savedothers; let him savehimself,ifhebeChrist, the chosen of God.36And the soldiersalsomockedhim,coming to him, andofferinghimvinegar,37Andsaying , Ifthoube the king of the Jews,savethyself.38And a superscriptionalsowaswrittenoverhim in letters of Greek,andLatin,andHebrew,THISIS THE KING OF THE JEWS.39Andone of the malefactors which were hangedrailed on him,saying , IfthoubeChrist,savethyselfandus.40But the otheransweringrebukedhim,saying , DostnotthoufearGod,seeing thou artin the samecondemnation?41Andweindeedjustly;for we receive the due reward of ourdeeds : but this man hath donenothingamiss.42And he said unto Jesus,Lord,remembermewhen thou comestintothykingdom.43AndJesussaid unto him,Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou bewithmeinparadise.44And it wasabout the sixthhour,and there was a darknessoverall the earthbuntil the ninthhour.45And the sun was darkened , and the veil of the temple was rent in the midst.46And when Jesus had cried with a loudvoice, he said , Father,intothyhands I commendmyspirit:and having saidthus, he gave up the ghost .
47Now when the centurionsaw what was done , he glorifiedGod,saying , Certainlythiswas a righteousman.48Andall the people that came togethertothatsight,beholding the things which were done , smotetheirbreasts, and returned .
49Andallhisacquaintance,and the women that followedhimfromGalilee,stood afar off,beholding these things.50And,behold , there was a mannamedJoseph, a counsellor; and he was a goodman,and a just:51
(The samehadnotconsented to the counselanddeed of them;) he was ofArimathaea, a city of the Jews : whoalsohimself waited for the kingdom of God.52This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.53And he tookitdown , and wrappedit in linen,andlaiditin a sepulchre that was hewn in stone,whereinnevermanbeforewaslaid .
54And that daywas the preparation,and the sabbath drew on .
55And the womenalso,whichcame with himfromGalilee, followed after , and beheld the sepulchre,andhowhisbody was laid .

And they returned , andpreparedspicesandointments;andrested the sabbath dayaccording to the commandment.
