But when1the fullness of the timecame, Godsentforth His Son, 2born of a woman, born3underathe Law,
5so that He might redeemthose who were underbthe Law, that we might receive the adoption as 4sons.
6Because you are sons, 5God has sentforth the Spirit of His Son into our hearts, crying, "6Abba! Father!"
7Therefore you are nolonger a slave, but a son; and 7if a son, then an heircthroughGod.
8However at that time, 8when you did not knowGod, you were 9slaves to 10those which by nature are nogods.
But now that you have come to knowGod, orrather to be 11known by God, 12how is it that you turnbackagain to the weak and worthlessd13elementalthings, to which you desire to be enslavedalloveragain?
You 14observedays and months and seasons and years.
I fear for you, that perhaps I have laboredeover you in vain.
I beg of you, 15brethren, 16become as I am, for I also have become as you are. You have done me nowrong;
but you know that it was because of a fbodilyillness that I preached the gospel to you the gfirsttime;
and that which was a htrial to you in my ibodilycondition you did not despiseorjloathe, but 17you received me as an angel of God, as 18ChristJesus Himself.
15Wherethen is kthat sense of blessing you had? For I bear you witness that, ifpossible, you would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.
16So have I become your enemy19by ltelling you the truth?
They eagerlyseek you, not commendably, but they wish to shut you out so that you will seek them.
But it is goodalways to be eagerlysought in a commendablemmanner, and 20not onlywhen I ampresent with you.
1921My children, with whom22I amagain in laboruntil23Christ is formed in you-
but I could wish to be present with you now and to change my tone, for 24I amperplexedabout you.
21Tell me, you who want to be underlaw, do you not 25listen to the law?
For it is written that Abrahamhadtwosons, 26one by the bondwoman and 27one by the freewoman.
But 28the son by the bondwomannwas bornaccording to the flesh, and 29the son by the freewomanthrough the promise.
24o30This is allegoricallyspeaking, for these women are twocovenants: one proceeding from 31MountSinaibearingchildrenpwho are to be 32slaves; qshe is Hagar.
25NowthisHagar is MountSinai in Arabia and corresponds to the presentJerusalem, for she is in slavery with her children.
But 33the Jerusalemabove is free; rshe is our mother.
For it is written, "34REJOICE, BARRENWOMAN WHO DOES NOT BEAR; BREAKFORTH AND SHOUT, YOU WHO ARE NOT IN LABOR; FOR MORENUMEROUS ARE THE CHILDREN OF THE DESOLATETHAN OF THE ONE WHO HAS A HUSBAND."
And you brethren, 35likeIsaac, are 36children of promise.
But as at that time37he who was bornaccording to the flesh38persecuted him who was born according to the Spirit, 39so it is nowalso.
But what does the Scripturesay? "40CAST OUT THE BONDWOMAN AND HER SON, FOR 41THE SON OF THE BONDWOMAN SHALL NOT BE AN HEIR WITH THE SON OF THE FREEWOMAN."
31Sothen, brethren, we are not children of a bondwoman, sbut of the freewoman.
