1Jesusspoke to them again in parables, saying,
2"1The kingdom of heavenamay be compared to ba kingwhocgave a 2weddingfeast for his son.3"And he 3sent out his slaves to callthose who had been invited to the weddingfeast, and they were unwilling to come.4"Again he 4sent out otherslavessaying, 'Tellthose who have been invited, "Behold, I have prepared my dinner ; my oxen and my fattenedlivestock are all butchered and everything is ready ; come to the weddingfeast."'5"But they paidnoattention and went their way, one to his owndfarm, another to his business,6and the restseized his slaves and mistreated them and killed them.7"But the king was enraged, and he sent his armies and destroyedthosemurderers and set their city on fire.8"Then he said to his slaves, 'The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy.9'Gotherefore to 5the mainhighways, and as many as you find there, invite to the weddingfeast.'10"Thoseslaveswent out into the streets and gatheredtogetherall they found, bothevil and good ; and the weddinghall was filled with edinnerguests.11"But when the kingcame in to lookover the dinnerguests, he saw6a manthere who was not dressed in weddingclothes,12and he said to him, '7Friend, how did you come in herewithoutweddingclothes ?' And the man was speechless.13"Then the kingsaid to the servants, 'Bind him hand and foot, and throw him into 8the outerdarkness ; in that placethere will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.'14"For many are f9called, but few are 10chosen."
1511Then the Phariseeswent and gplottedtogetherhow they might trap Him hin what He said.
16
And they sent their disciples to Him, along with the 12Herodians, saying, "Teacher, we know that You are truthful and teach the way of God in truth, and idefer to noone ; for You are not partial to any.
17"Tell us then, what do You think ? Is it jlawful to give a 13poll-tax to 14Caesar, or not?"
18
But Jesusperceived their kmalice, and said, "Why are you testing Me, you hypocrites ?19"Show Me the 15coin used for the poll-tax." And they brought Him a ldenarius.
20
And He said to them, "Whoselikeness and inscription is this ?"21
They said to Him, "Caesar's." Then He said to them, "16Thenrender to Caesar the things that are Caesar's ; and to God the things that are God's."22
And hearing this, they were amazed, and 17leaving Him, they wentaway.
2318On that day some 19Sadducees (who say20there is noresurrection ) came to Jesus and questioned Him,
24asking, "Teacher, Mosessaid, '21IF A MANDIESHAVINGNOCHILDREN, HIS BROTHER AS NEXT OF KIN SHALL MARRY HIS WIFE, AND RAISE UP CHILDREN FOR HIS BROTHER.'
25"Now there were sevenbrothers with us; and the firstmarried and died, and havingnochildrenleft his wife to his brother ;
26soalso the second, and the third, down to the seventh.
27"Last of all, the womandied.
28
"In the resurrection, therefore, whosewife of the seven will she be? For they allhad married her."
29
But Jesusanswered and said to them, "You are mistaken, 22not munderstanding the Scripturesnor the power of God.30"For in the resurrection they neither23marrynor are given in marriage, but are likeangels in heaven.31"But regarding the resurrection of the dead, have you not readwhat was spoken to you by God :32'24I AM THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, AND THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB '? He is not the God of the dead but of the living."33
When the crowdsheard this, 25they were astonished at His teaching.
3426But when the Phariseesheard that Jesus had silenced27the Sadducees, they gathered themselves together .
35One of them, n28a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him,
36"Teacher, which is the greatcommandment in the Law ?"
37
And He said to him, " '29YOU SHALL LOVE THE LORD YOUR GOD WITH ALL YOUR HEART, AND WITH ALL YOUR SOUL, AND WITH ALL YOUR MIND.'38"This is the great and oforemostcommandment.39"The second is like it, '30YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR AS YOURSELF.'40"31On thesetwocommandmentsdepend the wholeLaw and the Prophets."4132Now while the Pharisees were gatheredtogether, Jesusasked them a question :
42"What do you thinkaboutpthe Christ, whoseson is He?" They said to Him, "33The son of David."
43
He said to them, "Thenhow does Davidq34in the Spiritcall Him 'Lord,' saying,44'35THE LORDSAID TO MY LORD,"SIT AT MY RIGHTHAND,UNTIL I PUT YOUR ENEMIESBENEATH YOUR FEET "'?45"IfDavidthencalls Him 'Lord,' how is He his son ?"
