Psalm 87:2-7

Listen to Psalm 87:2-7
2 The LORD 1loves the gates of Zion More than all the other dwelling places of Jacob.
3 2Glorious things are spoken of you, O 3city of God. Selah.
4 "I shall mention 4Rahab and Babylon among those who know Me; Behold, Philistia and 5Tyre with 6Ethiopia: 'This one was born there.' "
5 But of Zion it shall be said, "This one and that one were born in her"; And the Most High Himself will 7establish her.
6 The LORD will count when He 8registers the peoples, "This one was born there." Selah.
7 Then those who 9sing as well as those who 10play the flutes shall say, "All my 11springs of joy are in you."

Psalm 87:2-7 Meaning and Commentary

INTRODUCTION TO PSALM 87

\\<>\\. Whether this psalm was composed by David, in a view of the temple to be built by his son Solomon; or whether by one that returned from the Babylonish captivity, who wrote it for the comfort of those that wept at the laying of the foundation of the second temple; it seems evident that the subject matter of it is the church of God in Gospel times, and especially in the latter day glory: the title in the Syriac version is, ``concerning the redemption of Jerusalem.''
