And when the day of Pentecost was now come, they were all together in one place. 1 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place.
And suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of the rushing of a mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting.
And there appeared unto them tongues parting asunder, like as of fire; and it sat upon each one of them. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.
And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them.
Now there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, from every nation under heaven. 5 Now there were staying in Jerusalem God-fearing Jews from every nation under heaven.
And when this sound was heard, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speaking in his own language. 6 When they heard this sound, a crowd came together in bewilderment, because each one heard them speaking in his own language.
And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying, Behold, are not all these that speak Galilaeans? 7 Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans?
And how hear we, every man in our own language wherein we were born? 8 Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language?
Parthians and Medes and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, in Judaea and Cappadocia, in Pontus and Asia, 9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; residents of Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
in Phrygia and Pamphylia, in Egypt and the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and sojourners from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya near Cyrene; visitors from Rome
Cretans and Arabians, we hear them speaking in our tongues the mighty works of God. 11 (both Jews and converts to Judaism); Cretans and Arabs--we hear them declaring the wonders of God in our own tongues!"
And they were all amazed, and were perplexed, saying one to another, What meaneth this? 12 Amazed and perplexed, they asked one another, "What does this mean?"
But others mocking said, They are filled with new wine. 13 Some, however, made fun of them and said, "They have had too much wine. "
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and spake forth unto them, [saying], Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and give ear unto my words. 14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: "Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say.
For these are not drunken, as ye suppose; seeing it is [but] the third hour of the day. 15 These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It's only nine in the morning!
but this is that which hath been spoken through the prophet Joel: 16 No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel:
And it shall be in the last days, saith God, I will pour forth of My Spirit upon all flesh: And your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, And your young men shall see visions, And your old men shall dream dreams: 17 " 'In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams.
Yea and on My servants and on My handmaidens in those days Will I pour forth of My Spirit; and they shall prophesy. 18 Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy.
And I will show wonders in the heaven above, And signs on the earth beneath; Blood, and fire, and vapor of smoke: 19 I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, And the moon into blood, Before the day of the Lord come, That great and notable [day]. 20 The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved. 21 And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.'
Ye men of Israel, hear these words: Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God unto you by mighty works and wonders and signs which God did by him in the midst of you, even as ye yourselves know; 22 "Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.
him, being delivered up by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye by the hand of lawless men did crucify and slay: 23 This man was handed over to you by God's set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross.
whom God raised up, having loosed the pangs of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it. 24 But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him.
For David saith concerning him, I beheld the Lord always before my face; For he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved: 25 David said about him: " 'I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.
Therefore my heart was glad, and my tongue rejoiced; Moreover my flesh also shall dwell in hope: 26 Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope,
Because thou wilt not leave my soul unto Hades, Neither wilt thou give thy Holy One to see corruption. 27 because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay.
Thou madest known unto me the ways of life; Thou shalt make me full of gladness with thy countenance. 28 You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.'
Brethren, I may say unto you freely of the patriarch David, that he both died and was buried, and his tomb is with us unto this day. 29 "Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day.
Being therefore a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins he would set [one] upon his throne; 30 But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne.
he foreseeing [this] spake of the resurrection of the Christ, that neither was he left unto Hades, nor did his flesh see corruption. 31 Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay.
This Jesus did God raise up, whereof we all are witnesses. 32 God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact.
Being therefore by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, he hath poured forth this, which ye see and hear. 33 Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear.
For David ascended not into the heavens: but he saith himself, The Lord said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, 34 For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, " 'The Lord said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand
Till I make thine enemies the footstool of thy feet. 35 until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet." '
Let all the house of Israel therefore know assuredly, that God hath made him both Lord and Christ, this Jesus whom ye crucified. 36 "Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ."
Now when they heard [this,] they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and the rest of the apostles, Brethren, what shall we do? 37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, "Brothers, what shall we do?"
And Peter [said] unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ unto the remission of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 38 Peter replied, "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For to you is the promise, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call unto him. 39 The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off--for all whom the Lord our God will call."
And with many other words he testified, and exhorted them, saying, Save yourselves from this crooked generation. 40 With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, "Save yourselves from this corrupt generation."
They then that received his word were baptized: and there were added [unto them] in that day about three thousand souls. 41 Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day.
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' teaching and fellowship, in the breaking of bread and the prayers. 42 They devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching and to the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. 43 Everyone was filled with awe, and many wonders and miraculous signs were done by the apostles.
And all that believed were together, and had all things common; 44 All the believers were together and had everything in common.
and they sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all, according as any man had need. 45 Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as he had need.
And day by day, continuing stedfastly with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread at home, they took their food with gladness and singleness of heart, 46 Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts. They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts,
praising God, and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to them day by day those that were saved. 47 praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.
