Bible in Basic English (BBE) New International Version (NIV)
Now Peter and John were going up to the Temple at the ninth hour, the hour of prayer; 1 One day Peter and John were going up to the temple at the time of prayer--at three in the afternoon.
And a certain man who from birth had had no power in his legs, was taken there every day, and put down at the door of the Temple which is named Beautiful, requesting money from those who went into the Temple; 2 Now a man crippled from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those going into the temple courts.
He then, seeing Peter and John going into the Temple, made a request to them. 3 When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.
And Peter, looking at him, with John, said, Keep your eyes on us. 4 Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, "Look at us!"
And he gave attention to them, hoping to get something from them. 5 So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them.
But Peter said, I have no silver or gold, but what I have, that I give to you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up on your feet. 6 Then Peter said, "Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk."
And he took him by his right hand, lifting him up; and straight away his feet and the bones of his legs became strong, 7 Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man's feet and ankles became strong.
And, jumping up, he got on to his feet and went into the Temple with them, walking and jumping and giving praise to God. 8 He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God.
And all the people saw him walking and praising God: 9 When all the people saw him walking and praising God,
And they saw that it was the man who made requests for money at the door of the Temple, and they were full of wonder and surprise at what had taken place. 10 they recognized him as the same man who used to sit begging at the temple gate called Beautiful, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.
And while he kept his hands on Peter and John, all the people came running together to the covered way which is named Solomon's, full of wonder. 11 While the beggar held on to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and came running to them in the place called Solomon's Colonnade.
And when Peter saw it he said to the people, You men of Israel, why are you so greatly surprised at this man? or why are you looking at us as if by our power or virtue we had given him the use of his legs? 12 When Peter saw this, he said to them: "Men of Israel, why does this surprise you? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?
The God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has given glory to his servant Jesus; whom you gave up, turning your backs on him, when Pilate had made the decision to let him go free. 13 The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified his servant Jesus. You handed him over to be killed, and you disowned him before Pilate, though he had decided to let him go.
But you would have nothing to do with the Holy and Upright One, and made request for a man of blood to be given to you, 14 You disowned the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.
And put to death the Lord of life; whom God gave back from the dead; of which fact we are witnesses. 15 You killed the author of life, but God raised him from the dead. We are witnesses of this.
And his name, through faith in his name, has made this man strong, whom you see and have knowledge of: yes, the faith which is through him has made him well, before you all. 16 By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know was made strong. It is Jesus' name and the faith that comes through him that has given this complete healing to him, as you can all see.
And now, my brothers, I am conscious that you did this, as did your rulers, without knowledge. 17 "Now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders.
But the things which God had made clear before, by the mouth of all the prophets, that the Christ would have to undergo, he has put into effect in this way. 18 But this is how God fulfilled what he had foretold through all the prophets, saying that his Christ would suffer.
So then, let your hearts be changed and be turned to God, so that your sins may be completely taken away, and times of blessing may come from the Lord; 19 Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,
And that he may send the Christ who was marked out for you from the first, even Jesus: 20 and that he may send the Christ, who has been appointed for you--even Jesus.
Who is to be kept in heaven till the time when all things are put right, of which God has given word by the mouth of his holy prophets, who have been from the earliest times. 21 He must remain in heaven until the time comes for God to restore everything, as he promised long ago through his holy prophets.
For Moses said, The Lord will give you a prophet from among your people, like me; you will give ear to everything which he will say to you. 22 For Moses said, 'The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your own people; you must listen to everything he tells you.
And every soul who does not give attention to that prophet, will be cut off from among the people. 23 Anyone who does not listen to him will be completely cut off from among his people.'
And all the prophets from Samuel and those who came after, every one of them, gave word of these days. 24 "Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have foretold these days.
You are the sons of the prophets, and of the agreement which God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, Through your seed a blessing will come on all the families of the earth. 25 And you are heirs of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers. He said to Abraham, 'Through your offspring all peoples on earth will be blessed.'
To you, first, God sent his servant, blessing you by turning every one of you from his sins. 26 When God raised up his servant, he sent him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways."
