Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of Moab, and for four I will not convert him: because he hath burnt the bones of the king of Edom even to ashes. 1 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Moab, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. Because he burned, as if to lime, the bones of Edom's king,
And I will send a fire into Moab, and it shall devour the houses of Carioth: and Moab shall die with a noise, with the sound of the trumpet: 2 I will send fire upon Moab that will consume the fortresses of Kerioth. Moab will go down in great tumult amid war cries and the blast of the trumpet.
And I will cut off the judge from the midst thereof, and will slay all his princes with him, saith the Lord. 3 I will destroy her ruler and kill all her officials with him," says the LORD.
Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of Juda, and for four I will not convert him: because he hath cast away the law of the Lord, and hath not kept his commandments: for their idols have caused them to err, after which their fathers have walked. 4 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Judah, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. Because they have rejected the law of the LORD and have not kept his decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods, the gods their ancestors followed,
And I will send a fire into Juda, and it shall devour the houses of Jerusalem. 5 I will send fire upon Judah that will consume the fortresses of Jerusalem."
Thus saith the Lord: For three crimes of Israel, and for four I will not convert him: because he hath sold the just man for silver, and the poor man for a pair of shoes. 6 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. They sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals.
They bruise the heads of the poor upon the dust of the earth, and turn aside the way of the humble: and the son and his father have gone to the same young woman, to profane my holy name. 7 They trample on the heads of the poor as upon the dust of the ground and deny justice to the oppressed. Father and son use the same girl and so profane my holy name.
And they sat down upon garments laid to pledge by every altar: and drank the wine of the condemned in the house of their God. 8 They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge. In the house of their god they drink wine taken as fines.
Yet I cast out the Amorrhite before their face: whose height was like the height of cedars, and who was strong as an oak: and I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots beneath. 9 "I destroyed the Amorite before them, though he was tall as the cedars and strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below.
It is I that brought you up out of the land of Egypt, and I led you forty years through the wilderness, that you might possess the land of the Amorrhite. 10 "I brought you up out of Egypt, and I led you forty years in the desert to give you the land of the Amorites.
And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. Is it not so, O ye children of Israel, saith the Lord? 11 I also raised up prophets from among your sons and Nazirites from among your young men. Is this not true, people of Israel?" declares the LORD.
And you will present wine to the Nazarites: and command the prophets, saying: Prophesy not. 12 "But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.
Behold, I will screak under you as a wain screaketh that is laden with hay. 13 "Now then, I will crush you as a cart crushes when loaded with grain.
And flight shall perish from the swift, and the valiant shall not possess his strength, neither shall the strong save his life. 14 The swift will not escape, the strong will not muster their strength, and the warrior will not save his life.
And he that holdeth the bow shall not stand, and the swift of foot shall not escape, neither shall the rider of the horse save his life. 15 The archer will not stand his ground, the fleet-footed soldier will not get away, and the horseman will not save his life.
And the stout of heart among the valiant shall flee away naked in that day, saith the Lord. 16 Even the bravest warriors will flee naked on that day," declares the LORD.
