Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Moab, and for four, I will not turn away [his punishment]: because he burned the bones of the king of Edom into lime: 1 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Moab, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. Because he burned, as if to lime, the bones of Edom's king,
But I will send a fire upon Moab, and it shall devour the palaces of Kirioth: and Moab shall die with tumult, with shouting, [and] with the sound of the trumpet: 2 I will send fire upon Moab that will consume the fortresses of Kerioth. Moab will go down in great tumult amid war cries and the blast of the trumpet.
And I will cut off the judge from the midst of it, and will slay all its princes with him, saith the LORD. 3 I will destroy her ruler and kill all her officials with him," says the LORD.
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Judah, and for four, I will not turn away [their punishment]: because they have despised the law of the LORD, and have not kept his commandments, and their lies caused them to err, after which their fathers have walked: 4 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Judah, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. Because they have rejected the law of the LORD and have not kept his decrees, because they have been led astray by false gods, the gods their ancestors followed,
But I will send a fire upon Judah, and it shall devour the palaces of Jerusalem. 5 I will send fire upon Judah that will consume the fortresses of Jerusalem."
Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of Israel, and for four, I will not turn away [their punishment]: because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes; 6 This is what the LORD says: "For three sins of Israel, even for four, I will not turn back [my wrath]. They sell the righteous for silver, and the needy for a pair of sandals.
That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek: and a man and his father will go in to the [same] maid, to profane my holy name: 7 They trample on the heads of the poor as upon the dust of the ground and deny justice to the oppressed. Father and son use the same girl and so profane my holy name.
And they lay [themselves] down upon clothes laid to pledge by every altar, and they drink the wine of the condemned [in] the house of their god. 8 They lie down beside every altar on garments taken in pledge. In the house of their god they drink wine taken as fines.
Yet I destroyed the Amorite before them, whose hight [was] like the hight of the cedars, and he [was] strong as the oaks; yet I destroyed his fruit from above, and his roots from beneath. 9 "I destroyed the Amorite before them, though he was tall as the cedars and strong as the oaks. I destroyed his fruit above and his roots below.
Also I brought you from the land of Egypt, and led you forty years through the wilderness, to possess the land of the Amorite. 10 "I brought you up out of Egypt, and I led you forty years in the desert to give you the land of the Amorites.
And I raised up of your sons for prophets, and of your young men for Nazarites. [Is it] not even thus, O ye children of Israel? saith the LORD. 11 I also raised up prophets from among your sons and Nazirites from among your young men. Is this not true, people of Israel?" declares the LORD.
But ye gave the Nazarites wine to drink; and commanded the prophets, saying, Prophesy not. 12 "But you made the Nazirites drink wine and commanded the prophets not to prophesy.
Behold, I am pressed under you, as a cart is pressed [that is] full of sheaves. 13 "Now then, I will crush you as a cart crushes when loaded with grain.
Therefore the flight shall perish from the swift, and the strong shall not strengthen his force, neither shall the mighty deliver himself: 14 The swift will not escape, the strong will not muster their strength, and the warrior will not save his life.
Neither shall he stand that handleth the bow; and [he that is] swift of foot shall not deliver [himself]: neither shall he that rideth the horse deliver himself. 15 The archer will not stand his ground, the fleet-footed soldier will not get away, and the horseman will not save his life.
And [he that is] courageous among the mighty shall flee away naked in that day, saith the LORD. 16 Even the bravest warriors will flee naked on that day," declares the LORD.
