The Darby Translation (DBY) New International Version (NIV)
At that time Jehovah said unto me, Hew for thyself two tables of stone like the first, and come up unto me into the mountain, and make thee an ark of wood; 1 At that time the LORD said to me, "Chisel out two stone tablets like the first ones and come up to me on the mountain. Also make a wooden chest.
and I will write on the tables the words that were on the first tables which thou didst break, and thou shalt lay them in the ark. 2 I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Then you are to put them in the chest."
And I made an ark of acacia-wood, and hewed two tables of stone like the first, and went up the mountain with the two tables in my hand. 3 So I made the ark out of acacia wood and chiseled out two stone tablets like the first ones, and I went up on the mountain with the two tablets in my hands.
And he wrote on the tables, as the first writing, the ten words which Jehovah spoke unto you on the mountain, from the midst of the fire, on the day of the assembly, and Jehovah gave them unto me. 4 The LORD wrote on these tablets what he had written before, the Ten Commandments he had proclaimed to you on the mountain, out of the fire, on the day of the assembly. And the LORD gave them to me.
And I turned and came down from the mountain, and put the tables in the ark which I had made; -- and they are there, as Jehovah commanded me. 5 Then I came back down the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made, as the LORD commanded me, and they are there now.
(And the children of Israel took their journey from Beeroth-Bene-Jaakan to Moserah: there Aaron died, and there he was buried; and Eleazar his son exercised the priesthood in his stead. 6 (The Israelites traveled from the wells of the Jaakanites to Moserah. There Aaron died and was buried, and Eleazar his son succeeded him as priest.
From thence they journeyed unto Gudgodah; and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land of water-brooks.) 7 From there they traveled to Gudgodah and on to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water.
At that time Jehovah separated the tribe of Levi, to bear the ark of the covenant of Jehovah, to stand before Jehovah to do service unto him, and to bless in his name, unto this day. 8 At that time the LORD set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the LORD, to stand before the LORD to minister and to pronounce blessings in his name, as they still do today.
Therefore Levi has no portion nor inheritance with his brethren; Jehovah is his inheritance, according as Jehovah thy God told him. 9 That is why the Levites have no share or inheritance among their brothers; the LORD is their inheritance, as the LORD your God told them.)
But I stood upon the mountain according to the former days, forty days and forty nights; and Jehovah listened unto me also at that time: Jehovah would not destroy thee. 10 Now I had stayed on the mountain forty days and nights, as I did the first time, and the LORD listened to me at this time also. It was not his will to destroy you.
And Jehovah said unto me, Rise up, take thy journey before the people, that they may enter in and possess the land, which I swore unto their fathers to give unto them. 11 "Go," the LORD said to me, "and lead the people on their way, so that they may enter and possess the land that I swore to their fathers to give them."
And now, Israel, what doth Jehovah thy God require of thee, but to fear Jehovah thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve Jehovah thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul, 12 And now, O Israel, what does the LORD your God ask of you but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all his ways, to love him, to serve the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul,
to keep the commandments of Jehovah, and his statutes, which I command thee this day, for thy good? 13 and to observe the LORD's commands and decrees that I am giving you today for your own good?
Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens belong to Jehovah thy God; the earth and all that is therein. 14 To the LORD your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it.
Only, Jehovah took pleasure in thy fathers, to love them, and he chose their seed after them, [even] you, out of all the peoples, as it is this day. 15 Yet the LORD set his affection on your forefathers and loved them, and he chose you, their descendants, above all the nations, as it is today.
Circumcise then the foreskin of your heart, and stiffen your neck no more. 16 Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer.
For Jehovah your God is the God of gods, and the Lord of lords, the great God, the mighty and the terrible, who regardeth not persons, nor taketh reward; 17 For the LORD your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great God, mighty and awesome, who shows no partiality and accepts no bribes.
who executeth the judgment of the fatherless and the widow, and loveth the stranger, to give him food and clothing. 18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the alien, giving him food and clothing.
And ye shall love the stranger; for ye have been strangers in the land of Egypt. 19 And you are to love those who are aliens, for you yourselves were aliens in Egypt.
Thou shalt fear Jehovah thy God; him thou shalt serve, and unto him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name. 20 Fear the LORD your God and serve him. Hold fast to him and take your oaths in his name.
He is thy praise, and he is thy God, who hath done for thee these great and terrible things, which thine eyes have seen. 21 He is your praise; he is your God, who performed for you those great and awesome wonders you saw with your own eyes.
With seventy souls thy fathers went down into Egypt; and now Jehovah thy God hath made thee as the stars of heaven for multitude. 22 Your forefathers who went down into Egypt were seventy in all, and now the LORD your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.
