1 Nel principio era la Parola, e la Parola era con Dio, e la Parola era Dio.

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

2 He was with God in the beginning.

3 Ogni cosa è stata fatta per mezzo di lei; e senza di lei neppure una delle cose fatte è stata fatta.

3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

4 In lei era la vita; e la vita era la luce degli uomini;

4 In him was life, and that life was the light of men.

|
5 e la luce splende nelle tenebre, e le tenebre non l’hanno ricevuta.

5 The light shines in the darkness, but the darkness has not understood it.

6 Vi fu un uomo mandato da Dio, il cui nome era Giovanni.

6 There came a man who was sent from God; his name was John.
|
|
7 Egli venne come testimone per render testimonianza alla luce, affinché tutti credessero per mezzo di lui.

7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all men might believe.
|
|
8 Egli stesso non era la luce, ma venne per render testimonianza alla luce.

8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
|
|
9 La vera luce che illumina ogni uomo, era per venire nel mondo.
|
9 The true light that gives light to every man was coming into the world.
|
|
10 Egli era nel mondo, e il mondo fu fatto per mezzo di lui, ma il mondo non l’ha conosciuto.

10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
|
|
11 E’ venuto in casa sua, e i suoi non l’hanno ricevuto;
|
11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
|
|
12 ma a tutti quelli che l’hanno ricevuto egli ha dato il diritto di diventar figliuoli di Dio; a quelli, cioè, che credono nel suo nome;
|
12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God--
|
|
13 i quali non son nati da sangue, né da volontà di carne, né da volontà d’uomo, ma son nati da Dio.
|
13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's will, but born of God.
|
|
14 E la Parola è stata fatta carne ed ha abitato per un tempo fra noi, piena di grazia e di verità; e noi abbiam contemplata la sua gloria, gloria come quella dell’Unigenito venuto da presso al Padre.
|
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
|
|
15 Giovanni gli ha resa testimonianza ed ha esclamato, dicendo: Era di questo che io dicevo: Colui che vien dietro a me mi ha preceduto, perché era prima di me.
|
15 John testifies concerning him. He cries out, saying, "This was he of whom I said, 'He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.' "
|
|
16 Infatti, è della sua pienezza che noi tutti abbiamo ricevuto, e grazia sopra grazia.
|
16 From the fullness of his grace we have all received one blessing after another.
|
|
17 Poiché la legge è stata data per mezzo di Mosè; la grazia e la verità son venute per mezzo di Gesù Cristo.
|
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
|
|
18 Nessuno ha mai veduto Iddio; l’unigenito Figliuolo, che è nel seno del Padre, è quel che l’ha fatto conoscere.
|
18 No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father's side, has made him known.
|
|
19 E questa è la testimonianza di Giovanni, quando i Giudei mandarono da Gerusalemme de’ sacerdoti e dei leviti per domandargli: Tu chi sei?
|
19 Now this was John's testimony when the Jews of Jerusalem sent priests and Levites to ask him who he was.
|
|
20 Ed egli lo confessò e non lo negò; lo confessò dicendo: Io non sono il Cristo.
|
20 He did not fail to confess, but confessed freely, "I am not the Christ. "
|
|
21 Ed essi gli domandarono: Che dunque? Sei Elia? Ed egli rispose: Non lo sono. Sei tu il profeta? Ed egli rispose: No.
|
21 They asked him, "Then who are you? Are you Elijah?" He said, "I am not." "Are you the Prophet?" He answered, "No."
|
|
22 Essi dunque gli dissero: Chi sei? affinché diamo una risposta a coloro che ci hanno mandato. Che dici tu di te stesso?
|
22 Finally they said, "Who are you? Give us an answer to take back to those who sent us. What do you say about yourself ?"
|
|
23 Egli disse: Io son la voce d’uno che grida nel deserto: Addirizzate la via del Signore, come ha detto il profeta Isaia.
|
23 John replied in the words of Isaiah the prophet, "I am the voice of one calling in the desert, 'Make straight the way for the Lord.' "
|
|
24 Or quelli ch’erano stati mandati a lui erano de’ Farisei:

24 Now some Pharisees who had been sent
|
|
25 e gli domandarono: Perché dunque battezzi se tu non sei il Cristo, né Elia, né il profeta?
|
25 questioned him, "Why then do you baptize if you are not the Christ, nor Elijah, nor the Prophet?"
|
|
26 Giovanni rispose loro, dicendo: Io battezzo con acqua; nel mezzo di voi è presente uno che voi non conoscete,
|
26 "I baptize with water," John replied, "but among you stands one you do not know.
|
|
27 colui che viene dietro a me, al quale io non son degno di sciogliere il legaccio de’ calzari.
|
27 He is the one who comes after me, the thongs of whose sandals I am not worthy to untie."
|
|
28 Queste cose avvennero in Betania al di là del Giordano, dove Giovanni stava battezzando.
|
28 This all happened at Bethany on the other side of the Jordan, where John was baptizing.
|
|
29 Il giorno seguente, Giovanni vide Gesù che veniva a lui, e disse: Ecco l’Agnello di Dio, che toglie il peccato del mondo!
|
29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, "Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!
|
|
30 Questi è colui del quale dicevo: Dietro a me viene un uomo che mi ha preceduto, perché egli era prima di me.
|
30 This is the one I meant when I said, 'A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.'
|
|
31 E io non lo conoscevo; ma appunto perché egli sia manifestato ad Israele, son io venuto a battezzar con acqua.
|
31 I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel."
|
|
32 E Giovanni rese la sua testimonianza, dicendo: Ho veduto lo Spirito scendere dal cielo a guisa di colomba, e fermarsi su di lui.
|
32 Then John gave this testimony: "I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him.
|
|
33 E io non lo conoscevo; ma Colui che mi ha mandato a battezzare con acqua, mi ha detto: Colui sul quale vedrai lo Spirito scendere e fermarsi, è quel che battezza con lo Spirito Santo.
|
33 I would not have known him, except that the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, 'The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is he who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.'
|
|
34 E io ho veduto e ho attestato che questi è il Figliuol di Dio.
|
34 I have seen and I testify that this is the Son of God."
|
|
35 Il giorno seguente, Giovanni era di nuovo là con due de’ suoi discepoli;
|
35 The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.
|
|
36 e avendo fissato lo sguardo su Gesù che stava passando, disse: Ecco l’Agnello di Dio!
|
36 When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"
|
|
37 E i suoi due discepoli, avendolo udito parlare, seguirono Gesù.
|
37 When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.
|
|
38 E Gesù, voltatosi, e osservando che lo seguivano, domandò loro: Che cercate? Ed essi gli dissero: Rabbì (che, interpretato, vuol dire: Maestro), ove dimori?
|
38 Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi" (which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"
|
|
39 Egli rispose loro: Venite e vedrete. Essi dunque andarono, e videro ove dimorava, e stettero con lui quel giorno. Era circa la decima ora.
|
39 "Come," he replied, "and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was about the tenth hour.
|
|
40 Andrea, il fratello di Simon Pietro, era uno dei due che aveano udito Giovanni ed avean seguito Gesù.
|
40 Andrew, Simon Peter's brother, was one of the two who heard what John had said and who had followed Jesus.
|
|
41 Egli pel primo trovò il proprio fratello Simone e gli disse: Abbiam trovato il Messia (che, interpretato, vuol dire: Cristo); e lo menò da Gesù.
|
41 The first thing Andrew did was to find his brother Simon and tell him, "We have found the Messiah" (that is, the Christ).
|
|
42 E Gesù, fissato in lui lo sguardo, disse: Tu sei Simone, il figliuol di Giovanni; tu sarai chiamato Cefa (che significa Pietro).
|
42 And he brought him to Jesus. Jesus looked at him and said, "You are Simon son of John. You will be called Cephas" (which, when translated, is Peter ).
|
|
43 Il giorno seguente, Gesù volle partire per la Galilea; trovò Filippo, e gli disse: Seguimi.
|
43 The next day Jesus decided to leave for Galilee. Finding Philip, he said to him, "Follow me."
|
|
44 Or Filippo era di Betsaida, della città d’Andrea e di Pietro.
|
44 Philip, like Andrew and Peter, was from the town of Bethsaida.
|
|
45 Filippo trovò Natanaele, e gli disse: Abbiam trovato colui del quale hanno scritto Mosè nella legge, ed i profeti: Gesù figliuolo di Giuseppe, da Nazaret.
|
45 Philip found Nathanael and told him, "We have found the one Moses wrote about in the Law, and about whom the prophets also wrote--Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph."
|
|
46 E Natanaele gli disse: Può forse venir qualcosa di buono da Nazaret? Filippo gli rispose: Vieni a vedere.
|
46 "Nazareth! Can anything good come from there?" Nathanael asked. "Come and see," said Philip.
|
|
47 Gesù vide Natanaele che gli veniva incontro, e disse di lui: Ecco un vero israelita in cui non c’è frode.
|
47 When Jesus saw Nathanael approaching, he said of him, "Here is a true Israelite, in whom there is nothing false."
|
|
48 Natanaele gli chiese: Da che mi conosci? Gesù gli rispose: Prima che Filippo ti chiamasse, quand’eri sotto il fico, io t’ho veduto.
|
48 "How do you know me?" Nathanael asked. Jesus answered, "I saw you while you were still under the fig tree before Philip called you."
|
|
49 Natanaele gli rispose: Maestro, tu sei il Figliuol di Dio, tu sei il Re d’Israele.
|
49 Then Nathanael declared, "Rabbi, you are the Son of God; you are the King of Israel."
|
|
50 Gesù rispose e gli disse: Perché t’ho detto che t’avevo visto sotto il fico, tu credi? Tu vedrai cose maggiori di queste.
|
50 Jesus said, "You believe because I told you I saw you under the fig tree. You shall see greater things than that."
|
|
51 Poi gli disse: In verità, in verità vi dico che vedrete il cielo aperto e gli angeli di Dio salire e scendere sopra il Figliuol dell’uomo.
|
51 He then added, "I tell you the truth, you shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending on the Son of Man."
