American Standard Version (ASV) New International Version (NIV)
Hear this, O ye priests, and hearken, O house of Israel, and give ear, O house of the king; for unto you pertaineth the judgment; for ye have been a snare at Mizpah, and a net spread upon Tabor. 1 "Hear this, you priests! Pay attention, you Israelites! Listen, O royal house! This judgment is against you: You have been a snare at Mizpah, a net spread out on Tabor.
And the revolters are gone deep in making slaughter; but I am a rebuker of them all. 2 The rebels are deep in slaughter. I will discipline all of them.
I know Ephraim, and Israel is not hid from me; for now, O Ephraim, thou hast played the harlot, Israel is defiled. 3 I know all about Ephraim; Israel is not hidden from me. Ephraim, you have now turned to prostitution; Israel is corrupt.
Their doings will not suffer them to turn unto their God; for the spirit of whoredom is within them, and they know not Jehovah. 4 "Their deeds do not permit them to return to their God. A spirit of prostitution is in their heart; they do not acknowledge the LORD.
And the pride of Israel doth testify to his face: therefore Israel and Ephraim shall stumble in their iniquity; Judah also shall stumble with them. 5 Israel's arrogance testifies against them; the Israelites, even Ephraim, stumble in their sin; Judah also stumbles with them.
They shall go with their flocks and with their herds to seek Jehovah; but they shall not find him: he hath withdrawn himself from them. 6 When they go with their flocks and herds to seek the LORD, they will not find him; he has withdrawn himself from them.
They have dealt treacherously against Jehovah; for they have borne strange children: now shall the new moon devour them with their fields. 7 They are unfaithful to the LORD; they give birth to illegitimate children. Now their New Moon festivals will devour them and their fields.
Blow ye the cornet in Gibeah, and the trumpet in Ramah: sound an alarm at Beth-aven; behind thee, O Benjamin. 8 "Sound the trumpet in Gibeah, the horn in Ramah. Raise the battle cry in Beth Aven; lead on, O Benjamin.
Ephraim shall become a desolation in the day of rebuke: among the tribes of Israel have I made known that which shall surely be. 9 Ephraim will be laid waste on the day of reckoning. Among the tribes of Israel I proclaim what is certain.
The princes of Judah are like them that remove the landmark: I will pour out my wrath upon them like water. 10 Judah's leaders are like those who move boundary stones. I will pour out my wrath on them like a flood of water.
Ephraim is oppressed, he is crushed in judgment; because he was content to walk after [man's] command. 11 Ephraim is oppressed, trampled in judgment, intent on pursuing idols.
Therefore am I unto Ephraim as a moth, and to the house of Judah as rottenness. 12 I am like a moth to Ephraim, like rot to the people of Judah.
When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah [saw] his wound, then went Ephraim to Assyria, and sent to king Jareb: but he is not able to heal you, neither will he cure you of your wound. 13 "When Ephraim saw his sickness, and Judah his sores, then Ephraim turned to Assyria, and sent to the great king for help. But he is not able to cure you, not able to heal your sores.
For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will carry off, and there shall be none to deliver. 14 For I will be like a lion to Ephraim, like a great lion to Judah. I will tear them to pieces and go away; I will carry them off, with no one to rescue them.
I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me earnestly. 15 Then I will go back to my place until they admit their guilt. And they will seek my face; in their misery they will earnestly seek me."
