Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
"Do not be worried and upset," Jesus told them. "Believe in God and believe also in me. 1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me.
There are many rooms in my Father's house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
You know the way that leads to the place where I am going." 4 You know the way to the place where I am going."
Thomas said to him, "Lord, we do not know where you are going; so how can we know the way to get there?" 5 Thomas said to him, "Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how can we know the way?"
Jesus answered him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me. 6 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Now that you have known me," he said to them, "you will know my Father also, and from now on you do know him and you have seen him." 7 If you really knew me, you would know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him."
Philip said to him, "Lord, show us the Father; that is all we need." 8 Philip said, "Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us."
Jesus answered, "For a long time I have been with you all; yet you do not know me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Why, then, do you say, "Show us the Father'? 9 Jesus answered: "Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, 'Show us the Father'?
Do you not believe, Philip, that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I have spoken to you," Jesus said to his disciples, "do not come from me. The Father, who remains in me, does his own work. 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you are not just my own. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work.
Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me. If not, believe because of the things I do. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves.
I am telling you the truth: those who believe in me will do what I do - yes, they will do even greater things, because I am going to the Father. 12 I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.
And I will do whatever you ask for in my name, so that the Father's glory will be shown through the Son. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father.
If you ask me for anything in my name, I will do it. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
"If you love me, you will obey my commandments. 15 "If you love me, you will obey what I command.
I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, who will stay with you forever. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever--
He is the Spirit, who reveals the truth about God. The world cannot receive him, because it cannot see him or know him. But you know him, because he remains with you and is in you. 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.
"When I go, you will not be left all alone; I will come back to you. 18 I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.
In a little while the world will see me no more, but you will see me; and because I live, you also will live. 19 Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live.
When that day comes, you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me, just as I am in you. 20 On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you.
"Those who accept my commandments and obey them are the ones who love me. My Father will love those who love me; I too will love them and reveal myself to them." 21 Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him."
Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "Lord, how can it be that you will reveal yourself to us and not to the world?" 22 Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, "But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?"
Jesus answered him, "Those who love me will obey my teaching. My Father will love them, and my Father and I will come to them and live with them. 23 Jesus replied, "If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him.
Those who do not love me do not obey my teaching. And the teaching you have heard is not mine, but comes from the Father, who sent me. 24 He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me.
"I have told you this while I am still with you. 25 "All this I have spoken while still with you.
The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and make you remember all that I have told you. 26 But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.
"Peace is what I leave with you; it is my own peace that I give you. I do not give it as the world does. Do not be worried and upset; do not be afraid. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
You heard me say to you, "I am leaving, but I will come back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father; for he is greater than I. 28 "You heard me say, 'I am going away and I am coming back to you.' If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I.
I have told you this now before it all happens, so that when it does happen, you will believe. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.
I cannot talk with you much longer, because the ruler of this world is coming. He has no power over me, 30 I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me,
but the world must know that I love the Father; that is why I do everything as he commands me. "Come, let us go from this place. 31 but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. "Come now; let us leave.
