New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
When Jesus had finished saying all these things, he looked up to heaven and said, "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. 1 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed: "Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.
For you have given him authority over everyone in all the earth. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. 2 For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him.
And this is the way to have eternal life -- to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. 3 Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
I brought glory to you here on earth by doing everything you told me to do. 4 I have brought you glory on earth by completing the work you gave me to do.
And now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began. 5 And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with you before the world began.
"I have told these men about you. They were in the world, but then you gave them to me. Actually, they were always yours, and you gave them to me; and they have kept your word. 6 "I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word.
Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, 7 Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you.
for I have passed on to them the words you gave me; and they accepted them and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me. 8 For I gave them the words you gave me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you, and they believed that you sent me.
"My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. 9 I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.
And all of them, since they are mine, belong to you; and you have given them back to me, so they are my glory! 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine. And glory has come to me through them.
Now I am departing the world; I am leaving them behind and coming to you. Holy Father, keep them and care for them -- all those you have given me -- so that they will be united just as we are. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them by the power of your name--the name you gave me--so that they may be one as we are one.
During my time here, I have kept them safe. I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold. 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
"And now I am coming to you. I have told them many things while I was with them so they would be filled with my joy. 13 "I am coming to you now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy within them.
I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.
I'm not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.
They are not part of this world any more than I am. 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.
Make them pure and holy by teaching them your words of truth. 17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.
As you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. 18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.
And I give myself entirely to you so they also might be entirely yours. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.
"I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me because of their testimony. 20 "My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message,
My prayer for all of them is that they will be one, just as you and I are one, Father -- that just as you are in me and I am in you, so they will be in us, and the world will believe you sent me. 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.
"I have given them the glory you gave me, so that they may be one, as we are -- 22 I have given them the glory that you gave me, that they may be one as we are one:
I in them and you in me, all being perfected into one. Then the world will know that you sent me and will understand that you love them as much as you love me. 23 I in them and you in me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me and have loved them even as you have loved me.
Father, I want these whom you've given me to be with me, so they can see my glory. You gave me the glory because you loved me even before the world began! 24 "Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am, and to see my glory, the glory you have given me because you loved me before the creation of the world.
"O righteous Father, the world doesn't know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me. 25 "Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me.
And I have revealed you to them and will keep on revealing you. I will do this so that your love for me may be in them and I in them." 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them."
