1 Jerubbaal, qui est G?d?on, et tout le peuple qui ?tait avec lui, se lev?rent de bon matin, et camp?rent pr?s de la source de Harod. Le camp de Madian ?tait au nord de G?d?on, vers la colline de Mor?, dans la vall?e.

1 Early in the morning, Jerub-Baal (that is, Gideon) and all his men camped at the spring of Harod. The camp of Midian was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh.

2 L'?ternel dit ? G?d?on: Le peuple que tu as avec toi est trop nombreux pour que je livre Madian entre ses mains; il pourrait en tirer gloire contre moi, et dire: C'est ma main qui m'a d?livr?.

2 The LORD said to Gideon, "You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her,

3 Publie donc ceci aux oreilles du peuple: Que celui qui est craintif et qui a peur s'en retourne et s'?loigne de la montagne de Galaad. Vingt-deux mille hommes parmi le peuple s'en retourn?rent, et il en resta dix mille.

3 announce now to the people, 'Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.' " So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.

4 L'?ternel dit ? G?d?on: Le peuple est encore trop nombreux. Fais-les descendre vers l'eau, et l? je t'en ferai le triage; celui dont je te dirai: Que celui-ci aille avec toi, ira avec toi; et celui dont je te dirai: Que celui-ci n'aille pas avec toi, n'ira pas avec toi.

4 But the LORD said to Gideon, "There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will sift them for you there. If I say, 'This one shall go with you,' he shall go; but if I say, 'This one shall not go with you,' he shall not go."

5 G?d?on fit descendre le peuple vers l'eau, et l'?ternel dit ? G?d?on: Tous ceux qui laperont l'eau avec la langue comme lape le chien, tu les s?pareras de tous ceux qui se mettront ? genoux pour boire.

5 So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the LORD told him, "Separate those who lap the water with their tongues like a dog from those who kneel down to drink."

6 Ceux qui lap?rent l'eau en la portant ? la bouche avec leur main furent au nombre de trois cents hommes, et tout le reste du peuple se mit ? genoux pour boire.
|
6 Three hundred men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.
|
|
7 Et l'?ternel dit ? G?d?on: C'est par les trois cents hommes qui ont lap?, que je vous sauverai et que je livrerai Madian entre tes mains. Que tout le reste du peuple s'en aille chacun chez soi.

7 The LORD said to Gideon, "With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place."
|
|
8 On prit les vivres du peuple et ses trompettes. Puis G?d?on renvoya tous les hommes d'Isra?l chacun dans sa tente, et il retint les trois cents hommes. Le camp de Madian ?tait au-dessous de lui dans la vall?e.
|
8 So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites to their tents but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others. Now the camp of Midian lay below him in the valley.

9 L'?ternel dit ? G?d?on pendant la nuit: L?ve-toi, descends au camp, car je l'ai livr? entre tes mains.

9 During that night the LORD said to Gideon, "Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands.
|
|
10 Si tu crains de descendre, descends-y avec Pura, ton serviteur.
|
10 If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah
|
|
11 Tu ?couteras ce qu'ils diront, et apr?s cela tes mains seront fortifi?es: descends donc au camp. Il descendit avec Pura, son serviteur, jusqu'aux avant-postes du camp.
|
11 and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp." So he and Purah his servant went down to the outposts of the camp.

12 Madian, Amalek, et tous les fils de l'Orient, ?taient r?pandus dans la vall?e comme une multitude de sauterelles, et leurs chameaux ?taient innombrables comme le sable qui est sur le bord de la mer.

12 The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.

|
13 G?d?on arriva; et voici, un homme racontait ? son camarade un songe. Il disait: J'ai eu un songe; et voici, un g?teau de pain d'orge roulait dans le camp de Madian; il est venu heurter jusqu'? la tente, et elle est tomb?e; il l'a retourn?e sens dessus dessous, et elle a ?t? renvers?e.

13 Gideon arrived just as a man was telling a friend his dream. "I had a dream," he was saying. "A round loaf of barley bread came tumbling into the Midianite camp. It struck the tent with such force that the tent overturned and collapsed."

14 Son camarade r?pondit, et dit: Ce n'est pas autre chose que l'?p?e de G?d?on, fils de Joas, homme d'Isra?l; Dieu a livr? entre ses mains Madian et tout le camp.

14 His friend responded, "This can be nothing other than the sword of Gideon son of Joash, the Israelite. God has given the Midianites and the whole camp into his hands."

|
15 Lorsque G?d?on eut entendu le r?cit du songe et son explication, il se prosterna, revint au camp d'Isra?l, et dit: Levez-vous, car l'?ternel a livr? entre vos mains le camp de Madian.
|
15 When Gideon heard the dream and its interpretation, he worshiped God. He returned to the camp of Israel and called out, "Get up! The LORD has given the Midianite camp into your hands."

|
16 Il divisa en trois corps les trois cents hommes, et il leur remit ? tous des trompettes et des cruches vides, avec des flambeaux dans les cruches.
|
16 Dividing the three hundred men into three companies, he placed trumpets and empty jars in the hands of all of them, with torches inside.
|
|
17 Il leur dit: Vous me regarderez et vous ferez comme moi. D?s que j'aborderai le camp, vous ferez ce que je ferai;
|
17 "Watch me," he told them. "Follow my lead. When I get to the edge of the camp, do exactly as I do.
|
|
18 et quand je sonnerai de la trompette, moi et tous ceux qui seront avec moi, vous sonnerez aussi de la trompette tout autour du camp, et vous direz: Pour l'?ternel et pour G?d?on!
|
18 When I and all who are with me blow our trumpets, then from all around the camp blow yours and shout, 'For the LORD and for Gideon.' "

19 G?d?on et les cent hommes qui ?taient avec lui arriv?rent aux abords du camp au commencement de la veille du milieu, comme on venait de placer les gardes. Ils sonn?rent de la trompette, et bris?rent les cruches qu'ils avaient ? la main.

19 Gideon and the hundred men with him reached the edge of the camp at the beginning of the middle watch, just after they had changed the guard. They blew their trumpets and broke the jars that were in their hands.

20 Les trois corps sonn?rent de la trompette, et bris?rent les cruches; ils saisirent de la main gauche les flambeaux et de la main droite les trompettes pour sonner, et ils s'?cri?rent: ?p?e pour l'?ternel et pour G?d?on!

20 The three companies blew the trumpets and smashed the jars. Grasping the torches in their left hands and holding in their right hands the trumpets they were to blow, they shouted, "A sword for the LORD and for Gideon!"

21 Ils rest?rent chacun ? sa place autour du camp, et tout le camp se mit ? courir, ? pousser des cris, et ? prendre la fuite.

21 While each man held his position around the camp, all the Midianites ran, crying out as they fled.
|
|
22 Les trois cents hommes sonn?rent encore de la trompette; et, dans tout le camp, l'?ternel leur fit tourner l'?p?e les uns contre les autres. Le camp s'enfuit jusqu'? Beth-Schitta vers Tser?ra, jusqu'au bord d'Abel-Mehola pr?s de Tabbath.

22 When the three hundred trumpets sounded, the LORD caused the men throughout the camp to turn on each other with their swords. The army fled to Beth Shittah toward Zererah as far as the border of Abel Meholah near Tabbath.

23 Les hommes d'Isra?l se rassembl?rent, ceux de Nephthali, d'Aser et de tout Manass?, et ils poursuivirent Madian.
|
23 Israelites from Naphtali, Asher and all Manasseh were called out, and they pursued the Midianites.
|
|
24 G?d?on envoya des messagers dans toute la montagne d'?phra?m, pour dire: Descendez ? la rencontre de Madian, et coupez-leur le passage des eaux jusqu'? Beth-Bara et celui du Jourdain. Tous les hommes d'?phra?m se rassembl?rent et ils s'empar?rent du passage des eaux jusqu'? Beth-Bara et de celui du Jourdain.

24 Gideon sent messengers throughout the hill country of Ephraim, saying, "Come down against the Midianites and seize the waters of the Jordan ahead of them as far as Beth Barah." So all the men of Ephraim were called out and they took the waters of the Jordan as far as Beth Barah.

25 Ils saisirent deux chefs de Madian, Oreb et Zeeb; ils tu?rent Oreb au rocher d'Oreb, et ils tu?rent Zeeb au pressoir de Zeeb. Ils poursuivirent Madian, et ils apport?rent les t?tes d'Oreb et de Zeeb ? G?d?on de l'autre c?t? du Jourdain.

25 They also captured two of the Midianite leaders, Oreb and Zeeb. They killed Oreb at the rock of Oreb, and Zeeb at the winepress of Zeeb. They pursued the Midianites and brought the heads of Oreb and Zeeb to Gideon, who was by the Jordan.
