Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
After the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices to go and anoint the body of Jesus. 1 When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus' body.
Very early on Sunday morning, at sunrise, they went to the tomb. 2 Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb
On the way they said to one another, "Who will roll away the stone for us from the entrance to the tomb?" (It was a very large stone.) Then they looked up and saw that the stone had already been rolled back. 3 and they asked each other, "Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?"
So they entered the tomb, where they saw a young man sitting at the right, wearing a white robe - and they were alarmed. 5 But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.
"Don't be alarmed," he said. "I know you are looking for Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is not here - he has been raised! Look, here is the place where he was placed. 6 As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.
Now go and give this message to his disciples, including Peter: "He is going to Galilee ahead of you; there you will see him, just as he told you.' " 7 "Don't be alarmed," he said. "You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.
So they went out and ran from the tomb, distressed and terrified. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid. 8 But go, tell his disciples and Peter, 'He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.' "
After Jesus rose from death early on Sunday, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom he had driven out seven demons. 9 Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.
She went and told his companions. They were mourning and crying; 10 When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.
and when they heard her say that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe her. 11 She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping.
After this, Jesus appeared in a different manner to two of them while they were on their way to the country. 12 When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.
They returned and told the others, but these would not believe it. 13 Afterward Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them while they were walking in the country.
Last of all, Jesus appeared to the eleven disciples as they were eating. He scolded them, because they did not have faith and because they were too stubborn to believe those who had seen him alive. 14 These returned and reported it to the rest; but they did not believe them either.
He said to them, "Go throughout the whole world and preach the gospel to all people. 15 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.
Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved; whoever does not believe will be condemned. 16 He said to them, "Go into all the world and preach the good news to all creation.
Believers will be given the power to perform miracles: they will drive out demons in my name; they will speak in strange tongues; 17 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.
if they pick up snakes or drink any poison, they will not be harmed; they will place their hands on sick people, and these will get well." 18 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;
After the Lord Jesus had talked with them, he was taken up to heaven and sat at the right side of God. 19 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well."
The disciples went and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and proved that their preaching was true by the miracles that were performed. 20 After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and he sat at the right hand of God.
20 Then the disciples went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked with them and confirmed his word by the signs that accompanied it.
