When Jesus came down from the hill, great crowds followed him. 1 When he came down from the mountainside, large crowds followed him.
Then a man with a skin disease came to Jesus. The man bowed down before him and said, "Lord, you can heal me if you will." 2 A man with leprosy came and knelt before him and said, "Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean."
Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man and said, "I will. Be healed!" And immediately the man was healed from his disease. 3 Jesus reached out his hand and touched the man. "I am willing," he said. "Be clean!" Immediately he was cured of his leprosy.
Then Jesus said to him, "Don't tell anyone about this. But go and show yourself to the priestn and offer the gift Moses commandedn for people who are made well. This will show the people what I have done." 4 Then Jesus said to him, "See that you don't tell anyone. But go, show yourself to the priest and offer the gift Moses commanded, as a testimony to them."
When Jesus entered the city of Capernaum, an army officer came to him, begging for help. 5 When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to him, asking for help.
The officer said, "Lord, my servant is at home in bed. He can't move his body and is in much pain." 6 "Lord," he said, "my servant lies at home paralyzed and in terrible suffering."
Jesus said to the officer, "I will go and heal him." 7 Jesus said to him, "I will go and heal him."
The officer answered, "Lord, I am not worthy for you to come into my house. You only need to command it, and my servant will be healed. 8 The centurion replied, "Lord, I do not deserve to have you come under my roof. But just say the word, and my servant will be healed.
I, too, am a man under the authority of others, and I have soldiers under my command. I tell one soldier, 'Go,' and he goes. I tell another soldier, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and my servant does it. 9 For I myself am a man under authority, with soldiers under me. I tell this one, 'Go,' and he goes; and that one, 'Come,' and he comes. I say to my servant, 'Do this,' and he does it."
When Jesus heard this, he was amazed. He said to those who were following him, "I tell you the truth, this is the greatest faith I have found, even in Israel. 10 When Jesus heard this, he was astonished and said to those following him, "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith.
Many people will come from the east and from the west and will sit and eat with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven. 11 I say to you that many will come from the east and the west, and will take their places at the feast with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.
But those people who should be in the kingdom will be thrown outside into the darkness, where people will cry and grind their teeth with pain." 12 But the subjects of the kingdom will be thrown outside, into the darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth."
Then Jesus said to the officer, "Go home. Your servant will be healed just as you believed he would." And his servant was healed that same hour. 13 Then Jesus said to the centurion, "Go! It will be done just as you believed it would." And his servant was healed at that very hour.
When Jesus went to Peter's house, he saw that Peter's mother-in-law was sick in bed with a fever. 14 When Jesus came into Peter's house, he saw Peter's mother-in-law lying in bed with a fever.
Jesus touched her hand, and the fever left her. Then she stood up and began to serve Jesus. 15 He touched her hand and the fever left her, and she got up and began to wait on him.
That evening people brought to Jesus many who had demons. Jesus spoke and the demons left them, and he healed all the sick. 16 When evening came, many who were demon-possessed were brought to him, and he drove out the spirits with a word and healed all the sick.
He did these things to bring about what Isaiah the prophet had said: "He took our suffering on him and carried our diseases." 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken through the prophet Isaiah: "He took up our infirmities and carried our diseases."
When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he told his followers to go to the other side of the lake. 18 When Jesus saw the crowd around him, he gave orders to cross to the other side of the lake.
Then a teacher of the law came to Jesus and said, "Teacher, I will follow you any place you go." 19 Then a teacher of the law came to him and said, "Teacher, I will follow you wherever you go."
Jesus said to him, "The foxes have holes to live in, and the birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to rest his head." 20 Jesus replied, "Foxes have holes and birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay his head."
Another man, one of Jesus' followers, said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father." 21 Another disciple said to him, "Lord, first let me go and bury my father."
But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the people who are dead bury their own dead." 22 But Jesus told him, "Follow me, and let the dead bury their own dead."
Jesus got into a boat, and his followers went with him. 23 Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him.
A great storm arose on the lake so that waves covered the boat, but Jesus was sleeping. 24 Without warning, a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping.
His followers went to him and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We will drown!" 25 The disciples went and woke him, saying, "Lord, save us! We're going to drown!"
Jesus answered, "Why are you afraid? You don't have enough faith." Then Jesus got up and gave a command to the wind and the waves, and it became completely calm. 26 He replied, "You of little faith, why are you so afraid?" Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.
The men were amazed and said, "What kind of man is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!" 27 The men were amazed and asked, "What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!"
When Jesus arrived at the other side of the lake in the area of the Gadarenen people, two men who had demons in them met him. These men lived in the burial caves and were so dangerous that people could not use the road by those caves. 28 When he arrived at the other side in the region of the Gadarenes, two demon-possessed men coming from the tombs met him. They were so violent that no one could pass that way.
They shouted, "What do you want with us, Son of God? Did you come here to torture us before the right time?" 29 "What do you want with us, Son of God?" they shouted. "Have you come here to torture us before the appointed time?"
Near that place there was a large herd of pigs feeding. 30 Some distance from them a large herd of pigs was feeding.
The demons begged Jesus, "If you make us leave these men, please send us into that herd of pigs." 31 The demons begged Jesus, "If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs."
Jesus said to them, "Go!" So the demons left the men and went into the pigs. Then the whole herd rushed down the hill into the lake and were drowned. 32 He said to them, "Go!" So they came out and went into the pigs, and the whole herd rushed down the steep bank into the lake and died in the water.
The herdsmen ran away and went into town, where they told about all of this and what had happened to the men who had demons. 33 Those tending the pigs ran off, went into the town and reported all this, including what had happened to the demon-possessed men.
Then the whole town went out to see Jesus. When they saw him, they begged him to leave their area. 34 Then the whole town went out to meet Jesus. And when they saw him, they pleaded with him to leave their region.
