Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman whom he had married; for he had married a Cushite woman. 1 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite.
They said, Has Yahweh indeed spoken only with Moses? Hasn't he spoken also with us? Yahweh heard it. 2 "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?" they asked. "Hasn't he also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard this.
Now the man Moses was very humble, above all the men who were on the surface of the earth. 3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.)
Yahweh spoke suddenly to Moses, and to Aaron, and to Miriam, Come out you three to the tent of meeting. They three came out. 4 At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, "Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you." So the three of them came out.
Yahweh came down in a pillar of cloud, and stood at the door of the Tent, and called Aaron and Miriam; and they both came forth. 5 Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward,
He said, Hear now my words: if there be a prophet among you, I Yahweh will make myself known to him in a vision, I will speak with him in a dream. 6 he said, "Listen to my words: "When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams.
My servant Moses is not so; he is faithful in all my house: 7 But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house.
with him will I speak mouth to mouth, even manifestly, and not in dark speeches; and the form of Yahweh shall he see: why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant, against Moses? 8 With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"
The anger of Yahweh was kindled against them; and he departed. 9 The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them.
The cloud removed from over the Tent; and, behold, Miriam was leprous, as [white as] snow: and Aaron looked at Miriam, and, behold, she was leprous. 10 When the cloud lifted from above the Tent, there stood Miriam--leprous, like snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had leprosy;
Aaron said to Moses, Oh, my lord, please don't lay sin on us, for that we have done foolishly, and for that we have sinned. 11 and he said to Moses, "Please, my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed.
Let her not, I pray, be as one dead, of whom the flesh is half consumed when he comes out of his mother's womb. 12 Do not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother's womb with its flesh half eaten away."
Moses cried to Yahweh, saying, Heal her, God, I beg you. 13 So Moses cried out to the LORD, "O God, please heal her!"
Yahweh said to Moses, If her father had but spit in her face, shouldn't she be ashamed seven days? let her be shut up outside of the camp seven days, and after that she shall be brought in again. 14 The LORD replied to Moses, "If her father had spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp for seven days; after that she can be brought back."
Miriam was shut up outside of the camp seven days: and the people didn't travel until Miriam was brought in again. 15 So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on till she was brought back.
Afterward the people journeyed from Hazeroth, and encamped in the wilderness of Paran. 16 After that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran.
