Hebrew Names Version (HNV) New International Version (NIV)
My son, don't forget my teaching; But let your heart keep my mitzvot: 1 My son, do not forget my teaching, but keep my commands in your heart,
For length of days, and years of life, And shalom, will they add to you. 2 for they will prolong your life many years and bring you prosperity.
Don't let kindness and truth forsake you. Bind them around your neck. Write them on the tablet of your heart. 3 Let love and faithfulness never leave you; bind them around your neck, write them on the tablet of your heart.
So you will find favor and good understanding in the sight of God and man. 4 Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man.
Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And don't lean on your own understanding. 5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge him, And he will direct your paths. 6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.
Don't be wise in your own eyes. Fear the LORD, and depart from evil. 7 Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the LORD and shun evil.
It will be health to your body, And nourishment to your bones. 8 This will bring health to your body and nourishment to your bones.
Honor the LORD with your substance, With the first fruits of all your increase: 9 Honor the LORD with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops;
So your barns will be filled with plenty, And your vats will overflow with new wine. 10 then your barns will be filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim over with new wine.
My son, don't despise the LORD's discipline, Neither be weary of his reproof: 11 My son, do not despise the LORD's discipline and do not resent his rebuke,
For whom the LORD loves, he reproves; Even as a father the son in whom he delights. 12 because the LORD disciplines those he loves, as a father the son he delights in.
Happy is the man who finds wisdom, The man who gets understanding. 13 Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding,
For the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, The profit of it better than fine gold. 14 for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold.
She is more precious than rubies. None of the things you can desire are to be compared to her. 15 She is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her.
Length of days is in her right hand. In her left hand are riches and honor. 16 Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor.
Her ways are ways of pleasantness. All her paths are shalom. 17 Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace.
She is a tree of life to those who lay hold of her. Happy is everyone who retains her. 18 She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will be blessed.
By wisdom the LORD founded the eretz. By understanding, he established the heavens. 19 By wisdom the LORD laid the earth's foundations, by understanding he set the heavens in place;
By his knowledge, the depths were broken up, And the skies drop down the dew. 20 by his knowledge the deeps were divided, and the clouds let drop the dew.
My son, let them not depart from your eyes. Keep sound wisdom and discretion: 21 My son, preserve sound judgment and discernment, do not let them out of your sight;
So they will be life to your soul, And grace for your neck. 22 they will be life for you, an ornament to grace your neck.
Then you shall walk in your way securely. Your foot won't stumble. 23 Then you will go on your way in safety, and your foot will not stumble;
When you lie down, you will not be afraid. Yes, you will lie down, and your sleep will be sweet. 24 when you lie down, you will not be afraid; when you lie down, your sleep will be sweet.
Don't be afraid of sudden fear, Neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it comes: 25 Have no fear of sudden disaster or of the ruin that overtakes the wicked,
For the LORD will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being taken. 26 for the LORD will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being snared.
Don't withhold good from those to whom it is due, When it is in the power of your hand to do it. 27 Do not withhold good from those who deserve it, when it is in your power to act.
Don't say to your neighbor, "Go, and come again, Tomorrow I will give," When you have it by you. 28 Do not say to your neighbor, "Come back later; I'll give it tomorrow"-- when you now have it with you.
Don't devise evil against your neighbor, Seeing he dwells securely by you. 29 Do not plot harm against your neighbor, who lives trustfully near you.
Don't strive with a man without cause, If he has done you no harm. 30 Do not accuse a man for no reason-- when he has done you no harm.
Don't envy the man of violence. Choose none of his ways. 31 Do not envy a violent man or choose any of his ways,
For the perverse is an abomination to the LORD, But his friendship is with the upright. 32 for the LORD detests a perverse man but takes the upright into his confidence.
The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked, But he blesses the habitation of the righteous. 33 The LORD's curse is on the house of the wicked, but he blesses the home of the righteous.
Surely he mocks the mockers, But he gives grace to the humble. 34 He mocks proud mockers but gives grace to the humble.
The wise will inherit glory, But shame will be the promotion of fools. 35 The wise inherit honor, but fools he holds up to shame.
