Proverbs 8 NLT/NIV - Online Parallel Bible

New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
Listen as wisdom calls out! Hear as understanding raises her voice! 1 Does not wisdom call out? Does not understanding raise her voice?
She stands on the hilltop and at the crossroads. 2 On the heights along the way, where the paths meet, she takes her stand;
At the entrance to the city, at the city gates, she cries aloud, 3 beside the gates leading into the city, at the entrances, she cries aloud:
"I call to you, to all of you! I am raising my voice to all people. 4 "To you, O men, I call out; I raise my voice to all mankind.
How naive you are! Let me give you common sense. O foolish ones, let me give you understanding. 5 You who are simple, gain prudence; you who are foolish, gain understanding.
Listen to me! For I have excellent things to tell you. Everything I say is right, 6 Listen, for I have worthy things to say; I open my lips to speak what is right.
for I speak the truth and hate every kind of deception. 7 My mouth speaks what is true, for my lips detest wickedness.
My advice is wholesome and good. There is nothing crooked or twisted in it. 8 All the words of my mouth are just; none of them is crooked or perverse.
My words are plain to anyone with understanding, clear to those who want to learn." 9 To the discerning all of them are right; they are faultless to those who have knowledge.
"Choose my instruction rather than silver, and knowledge over pure gold. 10 Choose my instruction instead of silver, knowledge rather than choice gold,
For wisdom is far more valuable than rubies. Nothing you desire can be compared with it." 11 for wisdom is more precious than rubies, and nothing you desire can compare with her.
"I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. 12 "I, wisdom, dwell together with prudence; I possess knowledge and discretion.
All who fear the LORD will hate evil. That is why I hate pride, arrogance, corruption, and perverted speech. 13 To fear the LORD is to hate evil; I hate pride and arrogance, evil behavior and perverse speech.
Good advice and success belong to me. Insight and strength are mine. 14 Counsel and sound judgment are mine; I have understanding and power.
Because of me, kings reign, and rulers make just laws. 15 By me kings reign and rulers make laws that are just;
Rulers lead with my help, and nobles make righteous judgments." 16 by me princes govern, and all nobles who rule on earth.
"I love all who love me. Those who search for me will surely find me. 17 I love those who love me, and those who seek me find me.
Unending riches, honor, wealth, and justice are mine to distribute. 18 With me are riches and honor, enduring wealth and prosperity.
My gifts are better than the purest gold, my wages better than sterling silver! 19 My fruit is better than fine gold; what I yield surpasses choice silver.
I walk in righteousness, in paths of justice. 20 I walk in the way of righteousness, along the paths of justice,
Those who love me inherit wealth, for I fill their treasuries." 21 bestowing wealth on those who love me and making their treasuries full.
"The LORD formed me from the beginning, before he created anything else. 22 "The LORD brought me forth as the first of his works, before his deeds of old;
I was appointed in ages past, at the very first, before the earth began. 23 I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began.
I was born before the oceans were created, before the springs bubbled forth their waters. 24 When there were no oceans, I was given birth, when there were no springs abounding with water;
Before the mountains and the hills were formed, I was born -- 25 before the mountains were settled in place, before the hills, I was given birth,
before he had made the earth and fields and the first handfuls of soil." 26 before he made the earth or its fields or any of the dust of the world.
"I was there when he established the heavens, when he drew the horizon on the oceans. 27 I was there when he set the heavens in place, when he marked out the horizon on the face of the deep,
I was there when he set the clouds above, when he established the deep fountains of the earth. 28 when he established the clouds above and fixed securely the fountains of the deep,
I was there when he set the limits of the seas, so they would not spread beyond their boundaries. And when he marked off the earth's foundations, 29 when he gave the sea its boundary so the waters would not overstep his command, and when he marked out the foundations of the earth.
I was the architect at his side. I was his constant delight, rejoicing always in his presence. 30 Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence,
And how happy I was with what he created -- his wide world and all the human family!" 31 rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind.
"And so, my children, listen to me, for happy are all who follow my ways. 32 "Now then, my sons, listen to me; blessed are those who keep my ways.
Listen to my counsel and be wise. Don't ignore it." 33 Listen to my instruction and be wise; do not ignore it.
"Happy are those who listen to me, watching for me daily at my gates, waiting for me outside my home! 34 Blessed is the man who listens to me, watching daily at my doors, waiting at my doorway.
For whoever finds me finds life and wins approval from the LORD. 35 For whoever finds me finds life and receives favor from the LORD.
But those who miss me have injured themselves. All who hate me love death." 36 But whoever fails to find me harms himself; all who hate me love death."
