| The Darby Translation (DBY) | New International Version (NIV) |
| 1 {To the chief Musician. [A Psalm] of David.} The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They have corrupted themselves, they have done abominable works: there is none that doeth good. | 1 The fool says in his heart, "There is no God." They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. |
| 2 Jehovah looked down from the heavens upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. | 2 The LORD looks down from heaven on the sons of men to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. |
| 3 They have all gone aside, they are together become corrupt: there is none that doeth good, not even one. | 3 All have turned aside, they have together become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. |
| 4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, eating up my people [as] they eat bread? They call not upon Jehovah. | 4 Will evildoers never learn-- those who devour my people as men eat bread and who do not call on the LORD? |
| 5 There were they in great fear; for God is in the generation of the righteous. | 5 There they are, overwhelmed with dread, for God is present in the company of the righteous. |
| 6 Ye have shamed the counsel of the afflicted, because Jehovah [was] his refuge. | 6 You evildoers frustrate the plans of the poor, but the LORD is their refuge. |
| 7 Oh that the salvation of Israel were come out of Zion! When Jehovah turneth again the captivity of his people, Jacob shall be glad, Israel shall rejoice. | 7 Oh, that salvation for Israel would come out of Zion! When the LORD restores the fortunes of his people, let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad! |
