To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David. In thee, O LORD, do I seek refuge; let me never be put to shame; in thy righteousness deliver me! 1 In you, O LORD, I have taken refuge; let me never be put to shame; deliver me in your righteousness.
Incline thy ear to me, rescue me speedily! Be thou a rock of refuge for me, a strong fortress to save me! 2 Turn your ear to me, come quickly to my rescue; be my rock of refuge, a strong fortress to save me.
Yea, thou art my rock and my fortress; for thy name's sake lead me and guide me, 3 Since you are my rock and my fortress, for the sake of your name lead and guide me.
take me out of the net which is hidden for me, for thou art my refuge. 4 Free me from the trap that is set for me, for you are my refuge.
Into thy hand I commit my spirit; thou hast redeemed me, O LORD, faithful God. 5 Into your hands I commit my spirit; redeem me, O LORD, the God of truth.
Thou hatest those who pay regard to vain idols; but I trust in the LORD. 6 I hate those who cling to worthless idols; I trust in the LORD.
I will rejoice and be glad for thy steadfast love, because thou hast seen my affliction, thou hast taken heed of my adversities, 7 I will be glad and rejoice in your love, for you saw my affliction and knew the anguish of my soul.
and hast not delivered me into the hand of the enemy; thou hast set my feet in a broad place. 8 You have not handed me over to the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place.
Be gracious to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eye is wasted from grief, my soul and my body also. 9 Be merciful to me, O LORD, for I am in distress; my eyes grow weak with sorrow, my soul and my body with grief.
For my life is spent with sorrow, and my years with sighing; my strength fails because of my misery, and my bones waste away. 10 My life is consumed by anguish and my years by groaning; my strength fails because of my affliction, and my bones grow weak.
I am the scorn of all my adversaries, a horror to my neighbors, an object of dread to my acquaintances; those who see me in the street flee from me. 11 Because of all my enemies, I am the utter contempt of my neighbors; I am a dread to my friends-- those who see me on the street flee from me.
I have passed out of mind like one who is dead; I have become like a broken vessel. 12 I am forgotten by them as though I were dead; I have become like broken pottery.
Yea, I hear the whispering of many--terror on every side! --as they scheme together against me, as they plot to take my life. 13 For I hear the slander of many; there is terror on every side; they conspire against me and plot to take my life.
But I trust in thee, O LORD, I say, "Thou art my God." 14 But I trust in you, O LORD; I say, "You are my God."
My times are in thy hand; deliver me from the hand of my enemies and persecutors! 15 My times are in your hands; deliver me from my enemies and from those who pursue me.
Let thy face shine on thy servant; save me in thy steadfast love! 16 Let your face shine on your servant; save me in your unfailing love.
Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I call on thee; let the wicked be put to shame, let them go dumbfounded to Sheol. 17 Let me not be put to shame, O LORD, for I have cried out to you; but let the wicked be put to shame and lie silent in the grave.
Let the lying lips be dumb, which speak insolently against the righteous in pride and contempt. 18 Let their lying lips be silenced, for with pride and contempt they speak arrogantly against the righteous.
O how abundant is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for those who fear thee, and wrought for those who take refuge in thee, in the sight of the sons of men! 19 How great is your goodness, which you have stored up for those who fear you, which you bestow in the sight of men on those who take refuge in you.
In the covert of thy presence thou hidest them from the plots of men; thou holdest them safe under thy shelter from the strife of tongues. 20 In the shelter of your presence you hide them from the intrigues of men; in your dwelling you keep them safe from accusing tongues.
Blessed be the LORD, for he has wondrously shown his steadfast love to me when I was beset as in a besieged city. 21 Praise be to the LORD, for he showed his wonderful love to me when I was in a besieged city.
I had said in my alarm, "I am driven far from thy sight." But thou didst hear my supplications, when I cried to thee for help. 22 In my alarm I said, "I am cut off from your sight!" Yet you heard my cry for mercy when I called to you for help.
Love the LORD, all you his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but abundantly requites him who acts haughtily. 23 Love the LORD, all his saints! The LORD preserves the faithful, but the proud he pays back in full.
Be strong, and let your heart take courage, all you who wait for the LORD! 24 Be strong and take heart, all you who hope in the LORD.
