New Living Translation (NLT) New International Version (NIV)
A psalm of David. Oh, what joy for those whose rebellion is forgiven, whose sin is put out of sight! 1 Blessed is he whose transgressions are forgiven, whose sins are covered.
Yes, what joy for those whose record the LORD has cleared of sin, whose lives are lived in complete honesty! 2 Blessed is the man whose sin the LORD does not count against him and in whose spirit is no deceit.
When I refused to confess my sin, I was weak and miserable, and I groaned all day long. 3 When I kept silent, my bones wasted away through my groaning all day long.
Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat. Interlude 4 For day and night your hand was heavy upon me; my strength was sapped as in the heat of summer. "Selah"
Finally, I confessed all my sins to you and stopped trying to hide them. I said to myself, "I will confess my rebellion to the LORD." And you forgave me! All my guilt is gone. Interlude 5 Then I acknowledged my sin to you and did not cover up my iniquity. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the LORD"-- and you forgave the guilt of my sin. "Selah"
Therefore, let all the godly confess their rebellion to you while there is time, that they may not drown in the floodwaters of judgment. 6 Therefore let everyone who is godly pray to you while you may be found; surely when the mighty waters rise, they will not reach him.
For you are my hiding place; you protect me from trouble. You surround me with songs of victory. Interlude 7 You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance. "Selah"
The LORD says, "I will guide you along the best pathway for your life. I will advise you and watch over you. 8 I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you and watch over you.
Do not be like a senseless horse or mule that needs a bit and bridle to keep it under control." 9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
Many sorrows come to the wicked, but unfailing love surrounds those who trust the LORD. 10 Many are the woes of the wicked, but the LORD's unfailing love surrounds the man who trusts in him.
So rejoice in the LORD and be glad, all you who obey him! Shout for joy, all you whose hearts are pure! 11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous; sing, all you who are upright in heart!
