Good News Translation (GNT) New International Version (NIV)
Don't be worried on account of the wicked; don't be jealous of those who do wrong. 1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong;
They will soon disappear like grass that dries up; they will die like plants that wither. 2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
Trust in the Lord and do good; live in the land and be safe. 3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
Seek your happiness in the Lord, and he will give you your heart's desire. 4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Give yourself to the Lord; trust in him, and he will help you; 5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
he will make your righteousness shine like the noonday sun. 6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
Be patient and wait for the Lord to act; don't be worried about those who prosper or those who succeed in their evil plans. 7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
Don't give in to worry or anger; it only leads to trouble. 8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret--it leads only to evil.
Those who trust in the Lord will possess the land, but the wicked will be driven out. 9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.
Soon the wicked will disappear; you may look for them, but you won't find them; 10 A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.
but the humble will possess the land and enjoy prosperity and peace. 11 But the meek will inherit the land and enjoy great peace.
The wicked plot against good people and glare at them with hate. 12 The wicked plot against the righteous and gnash their teeth at them;
But the Lord laughs at wicked people, because he knows they will soon be destroyed. 13 but the Lord laughs at the wicked, for he knows their day is coming.
The wicked draw their swords and bend their bows to kill the poor and needy, to slaughter those who do what is right; 14 The wicked draw the sword and bend the bow to bring down the poor and needy, to slay those whose ways are upright.
but they will be killed by their own swords, and their bows will be smashed. 15 But their swords will pierce their own hearts, and their bows will be broken.
The little that a good person owns is worth more than the wealth of all the wicked, 16 Better the little that the righteous have than the wealth of many wicked;
because the Lord will take away the strength of the wicked, but protect those who are good. 17 for the power of the wicked will be broken, but the LORD upholds the righteous.
The Lord takes care of those who obey him, and the land will be theirs forever. 18 The days of the blameless are known to the LORD, and their inheritance will endure forever.
They will not suffer when times are bad; they will have enough in time of famine. 19 In times of disaster they will not wither; in days of famine they will enjoy plenty.
But the wicked will die; the enemies of the Lord will vanish like wild flowers; they will disappear like smoke. 20 But the wicked will perish: The LORD's enemies will be like the beauty of the fields, they will vanish--vanish like smoke.
The wicked borrow and never pay back, but good people are generous with their gifts. 21 The wicked borrow and do not repay, but the righteous give generously;
Those who are blessed by the Lord will possess the land, but those who are cursed by him will be driven out. 22 those the LORD blesses will inherit the land, but those he curses will be cut off.
The Lord guides us in the way we should go and protects those who please him. 23 If the LORD delights in a man's way, he makes his steps firm;
If they fall, they will not stay down, because the Lord will help them up. 24 though he stumble, he will not fall, for the LORD upholds him with his hand.
I am old now; I have lived a long time, but I have never seen good people abandoned by the Lord or their children begging for food. 25 I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread.
At all times they give freely and lend to others, and their children are a blessing. 26 They are always generous and lend freely; their children will be blessed.
Turn away from evil and do good, and your descendants will always live in the land; 27 Turn from evil and do good; then you will dwell in the land forever.
for the Lord loves what is right and does not abandon his faithful people. He protects them forever, but the descendants of the wicked will be driven out. 28 For the LORD loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. They will be protected forever, but the offspring of the wicked will be cut off;
The righteous will possess the land and live in it forever. 29 the righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever.
The words of good people are wise, and they are always fair. 30 The mouth of the righteous man utters wisdom, and his tongue speaks what is just.
They keep the law of their God in their hearts and never depart from it. 31 The law of his God is in his heart; his feet do not slip.
Wicked people watch good people and try to kill them; 32 The wicked lie in wait for the righteous, seeking their very lives;
but the Lord will not abandon them to their enemy's power or let them be condemned when they are on trial. 33 but the LORD will not leave them in their power or let them be condemned when brought to trial.
Put your hope in the Lord and obey his commands; he will honor you by giving you the land, and you will see the wicked driven out. 34 Wait for the LORD and keep his way. He will exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you will see it.
I once knew someone wicked who was a tyrant; he towered over everyone like a cedar of Lebanon; 35 I have seen a wicked and ruthless man flourishing like a green tree in its native soil,
but later I passed by, and he wasn't there; I looked for him, but couldn't find him. 36 but he soon passed away and was no more; though I looked for him, he could not be found.
Notice good people, observe the righteous; peaceful people have descendants, 37 Consider the blameless, observe the upright; there is a future for the man of peace.
but sinners are completely destroyed, and their descendants are wiped out. 38 But all sinners will be destroyed; the future of the wicked will be cut off.
The Lord saves the righteous and protects them in times of trouble. 39 The salvation of the righteous comes from the LORD; he is their stronghold in time of trouble.
He helps them and rescues them; he saves them from the wicked, because they go to him for protection. 40 The LORD helps them and delivers them; he delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in him.
