For the leader. A psalm of David: How blessed are those who care for the poor! When calamity comes, ADONAI will save them. 1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.
ADONAI will preserve them, keep them alive, and make them happy in the land. You will not hand them over to the whims of their enemies. 2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
ADONAI sustains them on their sickbed; when they lie ill, you make them recover. 3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.
I said, "ADONAI, have pity on me! Heal me, for I have sinned against you!" 830 4 I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you."
My enemies say the worst about me: "When will he die and his name disappear?" 5 My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?"
When they come to see me they speak insincerely, their hearts meanwhile gathering falsehoods; then they go out and spread bad reports. 6 Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad.
All who hate me whisper together against me, imagining the worst about me. 7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying,
"A fatal disease has attached itself to him; now that he lies ill, he will never get up." 8 "A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies."
Even my close friend, on whom I relied, who shared my table, has turned against me. 9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
But you, ADONAI, have pity on me, put me on my feet, so I can pay them back. 10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them.
I will know you are pleased with me if my enemy doesn't defeat me. 11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
You uphold me because of my innocence you establish me in your presence forever. 12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.
Blessed be ADONAI the God of Isra'el from eternity past to eternity future. Amen. Amen. 13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
