Holman Christian Standard (CSB) New International Version (NIV)
Happy is one who cares for the poor; the Lord will save him in a day of adversity. 1 Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the LORD delivers him in times of trouble.
The Lord will keep him and preserve him; he will be blessed in the land. You will not give him over to the desire of his enemies. 2 The LORD will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes.
The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed; You will heal him on the bed where he lies. 3 The LORD will sustain him on his sickbed and restore him from his bed of illness.
I said, "Lord, be gracious to me; heal me, for I have sinned against You." 4 I said, "O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you."
My enemies speak maliciously about me: "When will he die and be forgotten?" 5 My enemies say of me in malice, "When will he die and his name perish?"
When one [of them] comes to visit, he speaks deceitfully; he stores up evil in his heart; he goes out and talks. 6 Whenever one comes to see me, he speaks falsely, while his heart gathers slander; then he goes out and spreads it abroad.
All who hate me whisper together about me; they plan to harm me. 7 All my enemies whisper together against me; they imagine the worst for me, saying,
"Lethal poison has been poured into him, and he won't rise again from where he lies!" 8 "A vile disease has beset him; he will never get up from the place where he lies."
Even my friend in whom I trusted, one who ate my bread, has lifted up his heel against me. 9 Even my close friend, whom I trusted, he who shared my bread, has lifted up his heel against me.
But You, Lord, be gracious to me and raise me up; then I will repay them. 10 But you, O LORD, have mercy on me; raise me up, that I may repay them.
By this I know that You delight in me: my enemy does not shout in triumph over me. 11 I know that you are pleased with me, for my enemy does not triumph over me.
You supported me because of my integrity and set me in Your presence forever. 12 In my integrity you uphold me and set me in your presence forever.
May the Lord, the God of Israel, be praised from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and amen. BOOK II (Psalms 42-72) 13 Praise be to the LORD, the God of Israel, from everlasting to everlasting. Amen and Amen.
